75 ranking keywords for 20.000 words of content seems a bit low for me. Especially if you've already pointed links to your pages. Are you only focusing on one keyword in each article or do you use relevant terms and phrases too?
I have some fluff content on the website which doesn't exactly target any KWs. It's mainly there to make the website appear more authoritative and less spammy. My pillar article, which is about 3,000 words mainly targets my main KW. Next, I have 5 "best product" articles, each ranging from 1,300-,1,500 words a piece (Obviously, these articles discuss 4-5 products on average). These articles target one KW a piece, although many of them are ranking for several long-tail KWs as well. Finally, I have several individual product reviews. These articles tend to be 1,000 words in length and target one KW as well.
When I have an article written, I am more concerned with quality. Of course, I always have a KW in mind as well. I am of belief if you provide golden content, the traffic will find you.
