What would you do with 40k+ followers and decent engagement 500-5k+ likes per post to gain money?
I have set up a clothing website related to the niche but sales are going very slow.
Any suggestions?

Some people put in there IG bio something like "Contact for business inquiries".
Some I see are using fiverr.
There is also "shoutcart"(google it). Maybe others similar to this also.

I also have ~40k followers in the car niche though.
I started using shoutcart actively a month back and sold 4 shoutouts so far.
Its okay but not very consistent.
Im still looking for other good methods of monetization as well.

You can try with famebit , good platform for selling/buying shoutouts.
