Yup, so ask your viewers LOTS of questions throughout.
(1) I've noticed better engagement after mentioning, towards the start of my videos, "I'm always trying to improve my videos so if you have any suggestions on changes to the content, structure, or design please let me know because I'm all ears". The more authentic you are the better.
(2) I'm about to test this with a new video I'm going to be releasing soon: ask a questions and offer some reward for the best comment on that specific question after a given period of time (let's say 2 months). This is pretty specific to my video as it is about Youtube seo and I'll be giving away 2 hours of my time to do in-depth KW research to the person who answers my question the best.
(3) Visual Call Outs. You don't always have to verbally tell your audience to like or comment but instead, direct them to using cool visuals in your video.
My Best Hack (4) - Respond to every single comment on your videos and end off with asking them a question. This has proven a great way to create viral comment threads that not only increases the comments on your video but also seems to get other people to read through the thread (since they want to see all the responses); increasing their chances of also jumping into the conversation.
Oh and Lastly! (5) You can just comment on your own videos with a question to your audience and pin that to the top so everyone see's it who is looking through the comment section.
