Probably not what you want to hear but . Com regular pricing with privacy on namesilo is under $10, if you don't want to invest that in your startup, maybe worth evaluating if it's really worth your time.
Also if anyone did offer a free. Com no strings attached, and were not well known, it would be a bad move to trust them, they essentially control ownership of your domain.

the .99p's are scams, who doesn't want privacy... they all charge from my experience.. also they rip you off on year two, far better to go for a basic $10 you know includes everything and wont go up by 1000% in a years time...

there is just one way to make free .com website but its illegal and your website may be closed later
in this method we use hostgator .... it is something like spam .
just keep searching and you will find it and everything in this life can be obtained for free .. do not listen to these comments above ... i have the method but If I give it to you it will spread and will be closed by the site sorry :")

Why not just go ahead and buy it from a know provider? Buy time you go around and spend time trying to find something free. It would have cost you more in your time than to just go ahead an buy it.
