Correct me if i am wrong (seriously, please do) but providing your sitemap is always updated whenever you make a new post/page on your site then is there any point in manually uploading your sitemap to google search console?

I'm pretty sure the crawlers first search your robots.txt which provides a link to your sitemap so what is the point actually manually uploading the sitemap to google search console?

Surely for you guys who post multiple times daily, you don't upload a new sitemap to google search console each time?

Cheers guys!

Once you've submitted your sitemap location then there's no need to keep resubmitting, but in terms of whether or not to even submit one in the first place - I would say you should always do so. From being able to see how many indexed pages you've got at a glance, to keeping an eye on crawl errors, broken page locations etc, webmasters is a goldmine of helpful SEO data and I always like it to pull in as much data as possible.

You should always be submitting you sitemap when you add content to your site. Now only does it tell google you are adding content but it gives them direction. Submitting it simply means google will notice more often when you have new pages on your site.

So google updates your sitemap.xml file on google console everytime you add content?

Thats what i was confused about. My sitemap gets updated everytime i add new content however i update my site multiple times daily and thought i would have to upload the new sitemap to google search console every day?

Are you sure i only have to submit the sitemap once to google search console and google search console will update the sitemap.xml they have on file everytime the sitemap gets updated by yoast/my site?

I refresh my sitemaps every time i add significant content. So whenever a page is added i will refresh my sitemap to let google know about it.

Do you update the sitemap for all versions of your website on google search console (httpwww, http, httpswww, https)? Or do you only upload one sitemap to the main version of your website?

Your sitemap should automatically update when you add new content, if it doesnt then you can refresh it. Either way, once your sitemap LOCATION is added to GWT then you dont need to keep resubmitting it. You would only need to change/update it if the location changes (so changing sitemap plugins for example might also change the sitemap location meaning the old sitemap page location would be obsolete)

No, i usually use the one i am trying to rank and only that one. In the past, i have had some weird things with multiple version of the same page appearing in the index and the only thing i could find was i had the sitemap submitted to all my site versions.

My yoast/wordpress sitemap updates whenever i add new content but what i was confused with was whether googlesearchconsole will update the old sitemap they have on file (i.e recrawl the sitemap url) with the new sitemap with the extra urls on it?

Does that make sense? :D

Wicked, i'll remember to only submit the sitemap to the version of my site i am trying to rank.
