Anyone of you getting traffic from pure content?

Hi,

I often read about it on some blogs, they claim to be able to get traffic from SEs by just posting regularly without backlinks!

I read somewhere that you have to be a bit patient with it. After having written 50 posts, the traffic should kick in, it was said.

Now I wanted to ask you:

What can you tell us about your traffic strategy using just content alone? Have you been as successful as stated above?

I guess in Cutts' perfect world where there was no linkbuilding this could be true, but in reality there's simply no way to rank with content only. Having relevant content is one of the keys to rank, sure, but backlinks are still the master key.

In an ideal world, its a balanced combination of both.

Tried only pure content on a website, no luck, no traffic. That's bullshit, "just add high quality and unique content and the traffic will come". Lies.

Pure content ranking is possible - if the trend and new niche is on the rise and nobody has ever posted about it. Like the nofap stuff several years ago. Not anymore.

Just content + proper keyword research is all you need for traffic really. You cannot just write 50 articles in 2 days and expect the traffic to come. Write 5 QUALITY articles a day for over a year, then come back and tell us what happened.

I was able to rank a new keyword #2 and #3 on G's 1st page in two weeks. No backlinks pointing to it.

How many articles did you write?

What was the search volume and the cpc for that keyword?
Something like under 100 monthly u. and cpc of $0.02

If you're writing english articles, does it need to be american english with perfect pronunciation and such? I realised some articles that i bought is readable, but not native. Maybe that's why they don't give a sht to rank it?

Also what's with the amount of articles needed? I've seen sites that rank 1st page with just 15 articles.

Yes it's true, you can! you have to know what your doing when your researching and writing your content. It works for non competitive search queries. I have a few sites that I watched go right up the ranks with just content alone , and no links. There are billions of search queries that are getting good traffic, that not many people know about. The question is can you find them.

So, you first do your research and write on those long tails?

Balance is the key. While finding your niche and identifying which keywords are not very populated might work for some or be a part of a larger strategy. The question here is also what you'd rather do: spend time and other resources on creating great content you are interested in (are you?) while also building backlinks to it, or searching for less competitive keywords queries to populate those without building backlinks. And remember that there is much more to building traffic than being first in SERP.

This is true! For all of those CLAIMING they are ranking KWs without BLs, show us the stats!

If a keyword has little to no Commercial Intent, a low search volume, does not convert and little to no competition, of course you can rank for those keywords with little effort to no effort. That's like trying to get a date with the chick in the pic:



She doesn't have a lot of suitors; consequently, getting a date with her is going to be easy! Ugly keywords, [keywords with low to no commercial intent and a low conversion rate] are easy to rank because few people want them.

Conversely, keywords with moderate to high commercial intent require BLs, BLs and more of the right types of BLs.

It is always 50/50 between content and back links. Both are crucial IMHO. Sure, if you write quality content the back links will build themselves, but why would you honestly wait for that to happen?

There's simply no way to rank with content only? You must have some awful content then, because this is completely possible.

I mean the fact of the matter is that if it is poor quality, non-native sounding articles that no one will want to read, than of course nothing is going to happen. If you are consistently writing engaging high level content than you would probably be surprised with the outcome.

In my opinion, sometimes pure content can work, no need to build backlinks. Because if you are specialize in a new niche, only you can write blog about it. Of course, your blog will be on top when other people Google your "keywords" (niche).

It's possible if you focus on targeting long tail keywords or niches with relatively low competition imho, it's kind of hard for me to post proof now as some of my content is starting to generate organic backlinks, plus I'm not posting my site here, sorry. The site just turned 1 and it's about 90 pages. I only do white hat SEO and I've never bought a single link in my life, what links I do have I get for free through genuine channels, social media, forums and organic linking.

While you can get traffic without buying links, you'll never be able to compete for main keywords against sites with a strong backlink profile, unless your content goes viral, and that requires something pretty damn special. My rankings tend to improve when each update is rolled out, the site currently gets between 100-150 uniques per day now.

Revenue isn't anywhere near where I'd like it to be but then I know where I've gone wrong, I haven't put enough time and effort into monetizing. Now that I've got a half decent presence, I'm focusing my efforts on generating revenue.

Some revenue comes from affiliate commission but afaik, google isn't ranking sites that have affiliate links plastered in every article/post like before, what I did to counteract this was put call to action links to buy now etc on inner pages, the content is mostly clean of affiliate links, I suspect this has greatly helped me in terms of seo, but it has also had an adverse effect in terms of sales, catch 22.

TLDR

Yes it's possible, but just don't expect to compete or come anywhere near the level of traffic you would get with a solid backlink profile. The upside is great content generates organic backlinks, albeit at a much slower rate.

You sound like Matt Cunts!

Quality content does not build backlinks buy themselves.

Do you research! Examine all of the prolific writers whose articles and websites are tanked instead of ranked. They have amazing content but they cannot fathom why they cannot rank for moderate to highly competitive targeted keywords.

The answer is, their "Off Page SEO" sucks!!!
