Hey, I have recently picked a niche for an authority site, and am confident that I can provide really high quality, useful content for this niche. The keywords I want to rank for (according to google adwords), are medium and high for the most part. Does this mean i should shy away from this niche? After doing a lot of research, I really don't think it is an oversaturated niche, there is a lot of information out there on it, but not really any authority/speciality sites. I am also having a hard time finding a good domain, as the better ones are registered(Then of course when I visit the site, there is just a generic landing page with no content), or they are "premium domains"(on godaddy), and are listed for ridiculous amounts. Should I go for a really strong .org or .net, or a weak .com domain?

thanks!

The competition on Google Adwords has nothing to do with how hard it will be to rank for a given keyword. To find that out, you need to use a tool like Market Samurai or Traffic Travis or whatever else you prefer.

Unfortunately I'm no expert at this, but I read in another BHW thread that the Google AdWords keyword tool tells you the competition/desireability among advertisers for your keyword. In other words, the higher the tool ranks your keyword, the more advertisers want it. It doesn't necessarily correspond to the difficulty of ranking in that niche. If somebody knows otherwise, please, correct me if I'm wrong. Just my 2 cents.
In regards to the second half of your post, I'd imagine most would recommend a .com.
I can't give even half a good reason for this, but I've never heard of people going for any other domain suffix.
Good luck,
Art

edit: while I was typing this some people above me seem to have answered the question I was going for. Sorry to reiterate!

Thanks for the advice!
Should i buy these tools? I have the free version of traffic travis, but should i invest in anyof these tools? Also, can someone confirm that i should go for a weak .com as opposed to a strong .org/.net ?

you could check in to getting an expired domain that already has built in link juice and some built up authority. This is a great way to get a site
ranked quicker.
