"The FBI tracked Kretsinger through the user logs at web proxy provider Hidemyass.com, a commercial VPN proxy service he allegedly used to mask his IP address and identity."

Almost any service will turn over their records when they see a subpena.

Plus, the entire US justice department has a hard on for lutz and anon, unlimited resources and manpower = overwhelming odds.
"You always lose to overwhelming odds."

lol, to be fair, the sonystore was offline for ages, and it was a right pain in the ass, so I'm glad they got him! I'd of handed him over if I was them!!

30 days.... all he needed is 30 days
actually HMA is just 12 bucks, this guy should get some better protection and get himself some Chinese proxies

this part stood out to me. reminder of how important it is to stfu and cover your tracks:

Unfortunately, whatever Kretsinger was up to (the FBI has been wrong in its accusations before), or how much he knew about how to use a certain set of tools and exploits, he didn't know enough about how to hide his tracks to keep the feds from knocking on the door.

When you're trying to hack the highest-profile players you can find, building a reputation by crashing the biggest parties, insulting the most important people and getting away again before they can respond, leaving a trail of footprints back to your place is not the best way to ensure you get a chance to ever crash a second party.

HMA is for making twitter accounts and similar next-to-nothing grey hat tasks, whoever is stupid enough to do major hacking over commercial services - deserve to be punished. Of course they will report and give logs, its clearly stated in their tos.

But....But....he was an uber hacker!!

Have you noticed that all thee guys could have been millionaires with their skills and they cant afford a decent apartment?

Have you been to their apartments?:eek: didn't know you were a ghost able to travel all over

I applaud these hacker groups :) they reveal all the BS the government tries to shove up in Congress or hide evidence of wrong doing during war, F the government :)

Exactly, what kind of loyalty is 12 bucks suppose to get you.

There's plenty of hosts and anonymity providers who make it a cause to not hand over information. And they protect political dissidents, hate speech, anything, just on principle. As the years go by anonymity providers will keep getting bigger.

I don't believe that they do it for money. There is something more important than money is to them.

I found this part of the article interesting though = Harder-core hackers or others looking for more certain anonymity often use zombie machines on botnets created by malware and other proxies over whose recordkeeping and vulnerability they have more control. anyone know more about this? what are zombie machines? lol

Custom hacking software and quad core slave computers devoted solely to the task at hand. Planning a caper? j/k

Yeah, its anonymous until the FBI gets involved. You have to be doing some really bad stuff for the FBI to get involved, so it is anonymous up to a point.

Ha ha a disposable slave computer, something you won't mind melting after you have totally wrecked some shit, good hackers can turn many peoples computers into zombies while their not using them

Some deep stuff those guys are into, but if you can infiltrate big time why the hell not and if you get caught then well you really have no excuses and have to face the music. Shame though thier talents aren't put to better use. But then I guess a lot of us would have way more competition if that was the case and they decided to play with internet marketing tactics.

I need to find me a BFF like that :p

Yeah, if the feds could get involved, just like everyone else said, you need to be doing more than using a service that literally has an ass in the logo LOL.
