Guide to "Google Webmaster Tools notice of detected unnatural links"

After receiving such an notification from Google NEVER do the following:

1) submit re-consideration
2) contact Google
3) remove your backlinks

1) Never submit reconsideration

You do not want to send reconsideration to Google EVER.
Not today, not yesterday, not tomorrow.
When you send reconsideration to Google you simply ask them to manually check your website, backlinks and history - if you do ANY Black Hat SEO - do you really want Google guys to manually re-check your account?

2) contact Google

Once again - you need to stay under the radar - dont ask Google to manually recheck your website - its suicide in most cases.

3) remove your backlinks

There is only one thing Google hate more than Black Hat SEO:

-removing content

Removing content - including links/articles/profiles - can hurt your rankings even more than penalty.
If you removed it before reading it - leave it as it is. But never remove any backlinks ever again unless you have experience in removing penalties.

How to protect yourself against it:

1) Never use the Google Webmaster Tools
2) Stop using Google Analytics
3) Get constant backlink source

1) Never use the Google Webmaster Tools

Using Webmaster Tools is like asking Google if your Black Hat backlinks are good enough.
You cannot mix the Webmaster Tools and Black Hat in any possible way - it is asking for problems sooner or later.
Remove it right away!

2) Stop using Google Analytics

Google analytics are embed in your code - they not only see number of visitors and source of them - but also bounce rate (crucial indicator post-Panda), your code, your methods and all information they need to evaluate you.
Remove it ASAP and find other visitor counter that is free.

3) Get constant backlink source

Never stop your backlinking campaign, even if you are #1.
Constant backlinks is what matters now.
Dont run from campaign to campaign - you need constant backlink source to dilute your main backlink campaigns.

Google since few weeks wont accept Black Hat within Webmaster Tools or Analytics anymore. After years of guiding your backlink campaigns they decided to punish all websites in the system.
Never again add them if you do any link building - you will get in to troubles sooner or later.

Remove Unusual Backlink Activity penalty from your website:

Method that gives me 90% Webmaster Tools Unnatural Links penalty removal:

1) Remove Anaytics and Webmaster Tools from your website - close the accounts.

2) Create a bunch of quality (mostly high PR) backlinks - many quality providers over BST.

3) 3 days afterwards of removing those accounts submit your site to Whois sites (free) or Bookmarking sites (safer) (Whois submission can be done for free using tools available on BHW - second one can be done buying $5 worth of Bookmarks).

4) 5 days afterwards change a bit your meta description, title or keywords - any change, even small is good enough (remove or add something there).

5) 7 days afterwards submit your site to Whois or Bookmarking sites again.

6) After 24 hours your site will be back on its position and everything will be back to normal.

If you have any questions - post here in thread for sake of others!!!

Good advice. +Rep given.

Is there any point in removing GWT and Analytics if you have (and require) an AdSense account? I mean, AdSense is pretty much Analytics Lite...

Excellent points and thanks for putting in the time and effort to compile the OP

Great work - very helpful too :)

I always cringed when people would talk about using Google Webmaster tools and analytics, I never wanted Google to have more access to what I was doing. It make NO SENSE to mix blackhat and Webmaster tools. Im sure Im fixing to get flamed by the same people who say "if that was true you could spam your competitors out of the serps"

Google is not an Internet police and they are penalizing websites not because they want to - but because they have to. I wont say much on this subject - but dont worry. Adsense is good to go.

I request any further question to not include Adsense case - there is some reasoning why Adsense wont affect your sites in this case that cannot be shared anywhere in public.

Now will come the never ending debate as to whether or not deleting GWT and GA's will fix the issue. I take it you have had firsthand experience dealing with this problem, have you tried the method minus the deletions and account closing?

I would love to see the comparison of coincidence ;)

This is not debate thread really - its a guide for people that got hit in last 2 weeks - I dont want for this to turn in to fight or something...
My source is testing - I have my own network of hundreds of websites, ~1.000 active customer websites that I research day by day and good connections in the industry - I think thats enough ;)

I was about to rush out then I saw this thread... Can't read right now but Bookmarked it to read later.

Bart always comes up with good stuff.

No no, I didn't mean for it to be a debate bro. It just seems like that has been the trend around here lately because of this update, I have full faith in what you say because its spot on to how I fixed one of my sites that got hit. The only difference was that I didn't delete my accounts.

I was simply asking if you have had such a high success rate with keeping the accounts installed as well, you know for us stubborn folk :D

Thanks Extrawinner for the excellent advice, I was looking for the solution to this thing as one of my friends site got this message in webmastertool, site was earning $600-700 a month and now its at $0. I hope he can get it back. You are really an extra winner.

+Rep and thanks given.

Nah, I fully understand man :)
Yeah - the results were really good.
Many people reported success on this and tbh - I use this method since ~2 years. Its just now when all the sites really got hit (before it was just few, but now its Chaos)...

Never had my sites in GWT so never got a notice, but had two sites clobbered recently (-250 and - 100). Would you suggest the same steps even if there's no actual G notice of unnatural links?

If you have Webmaster Tools or Analytics - then yes, same steps.

If not then check this thread:

PENALTY REMOVAL

Each penalty should be worked on individually - but this should give you idea what to do :)

One more thing:

I get PMs on a daily basis from people asking to what to buy to remove this penalty.
Dont buy anything from the beginning - be cool and don't panic. Just work your way back to the top - no need to spend crazy bucks if you can get back to the previous position by yourself while paying just a few dollars to some Bookmarks/Article guys...

Thanks. I had read your earlier article and tried to do some of it, the best I could (the sites involved are adult, so they're all backlinked from "bad neighborhoods" lol) - but so far, hasn't helped much so I was hoping the bookmarking/changing metas/bookmarking might be something worth trying.

Great suggestions for those who got hit(I personally didn't), however, I don't agree with this suggestion:
1) Never use the Google Webmaster Tools

You cannot mix the Webmaster Tools and Black Hat in any possible way - it is asking for problems sooner or later.
Remove it right away!
My reasoning is that Google already HAS the data. The only reason I wouldn't use it for my websites is:
1) If I interlink my websites extensively
2) If I use the same source of backlinks for my websites. For example, using HPS on all of my websites

What do you think?

I don't fully agree with removing wmt and analytics, but you know what, I will try it and see what happens b/c at this point, why not!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand why to remove analytics, this makes more sense to me, wmt not so much, but like I said above, I will try it b/c it won't hurt my site, if what you say works, then great, I'll do it and if it works, it works...

and when/if it works, I will come back here and give you major rep...

Of course, since I asked the question.....
in the last few hours, I've bounced from #300 (where I've been for a month, more or less) to #9 (around where I'd been before the last panda update).
Guess at least one of the things I tried, worked :)
Hope I'm not jinxing it by saying something
