Taking action and hit brick wall in 2 seconds flat! Any help?

Okay so I've finally decided to get off my wallflower butt, take action, and start making money (being a broke dreamer sucks ).

Here's what I've done:
1. Researched BHW and found a method I wanna blow out of the water locally (mobile services - web, qrc, sms, etc.)
2. Researched and registered an awesome domain
3. Got Fiverr gig rolling for logo + business card design
4. In the middle of researching stats and generating info for Fiverr brochure design (finished soon)
5. Signed up for hosting with Host Gator
6. Tried to create my site and realized I'm woefully lacking in technical knowledge ***This is the wall part***

So here's where I come to you, kindly BHWers, and seek assistance. The problem is that when I look at the cpanel for my site I swear it's like looking at Greek + Martian in one. I am so lost - it's unreal. The funny part is that I used to make TONS of sites with freebie services like geocities and such and figured it would be similar but apparently I'm way off on that. This has also got me a bit concerned as to how the f*** am I gonna mobilize (and not brick) a client's site if I can't even figure out my own!

Is there a guide out there for dummies (that's current) for how to make a site (perhaps a guide optimized for Host Gator's interface)? Couldn't find one on Google.

Any good templates that would be effective that you guys know about?

Any general help/advice is also appreciated.

Type Ctrl+F then type Fantastico. With Fantastico you can install wordpress.

Whatever you want to do with wordpress can be easily figured out with information from this site.

This has got to be one of the worst threads I've ever seen on BHW.

If you are familiar with fiverr - then you would know that this could easily be outsourced by some nerdy 14 year old that's trying to save up for CODMW3 . until you learn it yourself

Try the HostGator forums.

If I can make a wordpress, anyone can make a wordpress. I'd listen to everyone else.

Maybe you should try wordpress? Log in to your cpanel, find the button that says "Fantastico De Luxe" in there you'll have a list of things you can install, one of them being Wordpress, which is the most popular blogging platform. Pretty easy to get a grasp on and make a site, plenty of guides out there for it as well.

Rude much? Not all of us are experts and everyone starts somewhere. I think my honest thread which will help me and probably others too is better than a lot the BS threads about "how to make $42,166,799,451.00 in 6 hours! no work! no sites! no links! no computer!" on here.

You can use wordpress to build pages instead of blogs. It's a crappy example, but it was my first wordpress site. marusiabhw (dot) com

Nah. We have this thing called "Google" where you can type in things like "how to build a web site" and it will magically tell you everything you need to know. Plus the OP has some hair brained scheme about mobile services, but he can't even work out how to build a basic web site? Good luck to him.

I was unaware of this (I thought wordpress was only for blogs). Good to know and I will definitely give it a try. Any particularly good templates that anyone knows about?

WP is easy to learn. There are tons of guides over the net.

When I tried to setup WP for the first time, looked all folders to find a setup/install.exe Then searched thru google and within 2-3 days I made my own WP site.

Not even close; at the OP has a plan. Okay, how could he get lost with CPANEL well that's got me scratching my head too but like he said he has led a sheltered life. The worst threads on BHW start with:

I agree, use wordpress, make your own site first and get as much practise as you can - read through wordpress site, there's tutorials and stuff on there.

Experiment with some themes and plugins. It's so easy to work with a wordpress site. And no they arnt just for blogs, you can create proper websites with wordpress as well.

For the record - I'm not lost in cpanel but it is something completely different than what I have experience with from all my past web endeavors (mostly through Yahoo geocities & Yahoo stores). This is my first go around not using Yahoo based services. I have never seen set ups like this before.

I made a video of that a month or so ago as I was mentoring a couple of people.. if you can stand my voice it should offer some help for you.

Ok you can relax now. Sometimes the cold hard truth hurts and just sometimes that's what it takes for people to learn. Nobody means to not help the OP in this thread. All points made will help OP indirectly or directly, you figure it out
