    Question Penguin 2.0 + 301

I have a site with over a million links, penalized penguin 2:
Is it a good idea to buy another domain with a lot of varied anchor text and make a 301 redirect?

I'm very interested to hear the views of the most experienced members here.

If you got messages in the webmaster tool then it is good idea not to 301. Because the penalty will transfer to the new one too. Rather do a 302 temporary redirect and test the things out.

As the site is having over million links, it is always tough to diversify it anymore without a massive effort. But you can copy the contents and try something with new site too. As new sites are ranking very quickly

From your above post , its clear you have millions of links, which looks spammy. So possible penalty for link spamming and i assume you would have receive mail from google saying unnatural backlinks if you are using webmaster tools.

There are debates going around for long time saying 301 from penalty site can pass the penalty to new domain. But from my experience it did nt happen when I done the same for my penalized site.

If Passing link juice from penalized site can penalize new domain, then it will be the top notch negative seo , where you can simply do the same with your competitor site who are ranking in top 10.

I suggest, move ahead with 301 and update here.

Forgot to add, if your site is de indexed do not try this, as its severe penalty. If it is just rank drops, do it.

Don't use a 302 as mentioned by someone else, it doesn't pass the juice.

Yes i was thinking this. Whoever posted it IS NOT an SEO!

As for 301'ing the whole site over to a new one i have some experience with a Panda 2 hit site which was no1 for its term. What i did was buy an aged domain which had a bunch of links for a closely related yet slightly different keyword.

I 301's the panda hit domain to the new bought domain to "dilute" the anchor text link juice. After 2 weeks i'm back sitting high at no1 again, only difference is my newly bought domain is at no1 not my old one. The site has been at no1 for about a month now so fingers crossed it seems like it's fixed the problem.

Dunno if that helps you but it does show that some fixes are possible with 301 redirects.

Hey I dont get why you would want to 301 to penalized domains.

I had a website which got penalized and I simply just bought a new domain with authority and started ranking that website again. Then I 301ed my penalized domain to newauthoritydomain.tld/sitemap and that worked perfect. I kept the linkjuice and avoided all the penalities. I dont know how it would work for you though.

Did this after Penguin v1 and the new website gained back all ranks. So quite a lot of time. However 2 weeks ago we got the hammer, worse than ever.

    Preparing the new 301.

The idea here is to do a 301 redirect to the penalized domain, to dilute the anchor text.

Like BigBuddy said, if you're able to redirect these to your competitors with the same effect they had on you, you've found GOLD JERRY.

Put simply: no, I seriously doubt it'll work. 301s are essentially like very very powerful links so think of it this way - if you were to dilute your tier 2 anchor text would that improve your money sites link dilution? No, so this probably won't either.

I would, however, 301 redirect your penalized site to a new domain. That will likely recover a good portion of what you lost.

Why not built up the new domain instead? Might be able to rank up easier. By 301 that into penalized domain, you may or may not get it back. I highly doubt you can, done it with web 2.0s with tier 2 links and still couldn't do anything on penalized site, new site won't make a huge difference in terms of moving the penalized site back. You might also look at some of the sites where you get tons of links from, maybe blogroll, or footer links that ended up sinking you that needs removing also.

It is great when someone tries this technique for themself. I've been redirecting aged/penalized domains to fresh domains, not aged domains to penalized domains.

Very interested to see how this works out.

I have a question for those that have used the 301 method effectively (not necessarily the OPs version, but 301s in general for ranking): Is it mainly to be used if you're trying to rank your homepage, or can it be used across many inner pages as well?

For example, I have a review site that targets a bunch of different products. Do you guys think it would work if every time I added a new review, I just bought a handful of aged PR domains and 301ed them right to the new review page and sent links at the 301s? Or do you think that after a while, Google would wonder why the hell I have hundreds of 301ed domains pointing to a plethora of different pages on my site?

I know the obvious answer here is to test it out, but I was hoping someone could share their experience first.

To be honest I never thought of redirecting another site to my penalized site. Instead I just 301ed it to a new domain which worked but this new update is throwing me everywhere.

Looks like you're on a pretty obvious climb there....if this works it'll be a pretty innovative method.

Google says that if you 301 a penalized domain, then the penalty will pass.

Maybe in a similar sort of fashion, if you 301 a good non-penalized domain to a penalized domain then it will dilute the penalty somewhat? Or give the site a very pure boost?

The mechanics of how it works are almost impossible to figure out but if it works, then it works!

Will make a case study on this at some point I think. I'd be interested in seeing how this site performs after the initial three month "honeymoon" period of 301s.

Here is a previously penalized EMD that I redirected some unused, aged domains to on June 29th:

These domains are going to expire shortly and I'm not planning on renewing them so we'll see if that makes the SERPs fall.

It should help. I've noticed after a few months though it all goes to pot. Not sure why but could be to do with manual reports to Google.

This is a very interesting approach to recover a penalized domain.
If it works, it could change the game drastically and boost aged domain prizes hugely.
