Recently I've been doing some keyword research and what confuses me are the keyword tools Semrush and Moz offer. I bought semrush for 1month, and i'm currently on a trial period with MOZ, but they seem to give different results for one same keyword, especialy for the keyword difficulty points (value).

For the exact same keyword, Moz says it's difficulty value is: 28/100, and yet for semrush is: 0.80/1.00 (which is hard).

I do some manual search on the serp, and the sites seem low, not even responsive. I check their backlinks using semrush, they don't have a lot, 5-10, some maybe 30-100... not that hard I believe.

in Semrush under 0.60 is easy, and 0.60-0.80 is medium difficulty, as is moz...Moz between 20-30 isnt super easy also. I 2nd month with moz and If you want easy keywords target moz under 20. Anyway, both are good but whatever tool you are using check your competition one by one - they will give you KW suggestions that no tool can come up with. I started using screaming frog seo spider from today and basicly its everything you need.

These tools are only to check them first , but you need to check them manually

remove these doubts, use ahrefs or longtail pro to better judge keyword difficulty or just come to jr vip there is a new thread made to judge keyword difficulty.

Your Choice.

Just checked ahref, its saying difficulty ; 5
yet there are some stong domains there (youtube, nyc.gov)... what do u think?

i think you should look at the top 5 results PA, if PA of 10 result is skewed like 50+50+50+50+50+1+1+1+1+1 = avg pa (25.5) => which decides keyword difficulty.

you see the avg pa is so less which will inturn be affecting KD=> affect your decision, i can construct example in different way as well. i hope you get the main idea.

So last thing you should do is check the Page authority with that same ahref (premium), do not use the shitty moz tool (its the most overrated tool in the whole fucking earth).

Good luck

What do u think about these stats? ez or not?

You should really stop determining the keyword competition by automated tools. They are terribly unreliable. For some basic filtering, okay, but deciding whether to go for it or not should not fall down to an automated tool. You can get burnt easily.

Would you mind sending me a link or pointing me to a walkthrough/tutorial on how to do it manualy?

Thanks a lot buddy.

This is where I struggled a couple of times. I even looked at my competition and thought it would be easier than it is. Committed now though, just got to keep working at it.

Keyword research is basically a step, which if you screw up, you can do whatever you want and you won't succeed. This is the step where it's already decided whether you will or won't succeed, so always spend tons of time here and be thorough.

Mind sharing your tips on how to manualy analyse SERPS to determine their difficulty.

I analysed my competition, I can definitely surpass them. Just a harder keyword to beat than I anticipated for my first go. It's also why I didn't go for a niche I thought looked great - I did more research.

I'm using Serpworx based on some others using it on this forum. Gives you insight into your competitors pages. You can also use the tools you suggested to check out each results backlinks and keywords etc. But I like how serpworx works as a plugin and I combine it with Ahrefs to see how my sites are ranking currently.

What bothers me is their domain age.. avareage is 10years+ lol... but their sites look bad and old, not even responsive...what do u guys think?

You need to focus on off site and on site SEO so the quality of their backlinks would be something to check. Obviously one site from that screenshot has a huge number of backlinks and a lot of traffic so I'm guessing they're an authority of some sort?

In your opinion what would you regard as "easy" keywords to rank for using ahref difficulty metric?

0-5, 0-10, 0-15, or is it all dependant on age of site?

Dont trust these.

You can get some general info but the best way would be to inspect each domain in top 10 for PBN behind its back.

And using ahref how would i know what pbn is behind all the sites? tell tale signs?

Cheers :)
