I'm currently building out an eCommerce website for change and am about to outsource my content creation. I know it won't be possible to rank without content, so I'm planning on adding 200 words per product and about 300 words on the category pages.

I read in another guide on BHW that a user suggested to write 1000 word product descriptions for my 50-100 most sold products which definitely makes sense in the long run. For those of you well-versed in recent eCommerce SEO - how long would you say the content length needs to be for product categories and product pages on an eCommerce site? Would love your input on this. Thanks :)

Personally I’d say 200-400 words is enough. Make sure it’s well written, relevant and unique.

find a good writer also, as you don’t want fluffy content you want it to be well researched and relevant to the product.

Edit: there’s a great guide regarding e-commerce content writing from @t2van here:

Thanks for the tip. That's a lethal guide - actually getting ecommerce product pages ranked in those Google question boxes at the top. Never thought of that.
