Zeen is their new, but mysterious, online magazine publishing site

Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, co-founders of YouTube and leaders of AVOS, are launching Zeen, an online magazine publishing service. According to its homepage, which looks more like a placeholder than an actual website, Zeen will be a place to ?discover and create beautiful magazines.?

Other than its bright logo, four-word bio and the teaser ?coming soon,? the website allows users to reserve a magazine moniker. After sign-up, the following snappy message appears:

?Thanks For Signing Up (Username)! We?re really excited to show you what we?ve been working on, and we?ll send you an email when it?s ready to go. In the meantime, we sent you an email to verify your email address. Please click on the link in the email so we know you?re you! Bye till then!?

The verification email is standard and includes few additional details other than a promise to ?be in touch soon,? and links to Zeen?s Twitter and Facebook pages.

YouTube founders readying 'Zeen' magazine platform

A teaser page on the Web suggests Chad Hurley and Steve Chen will soon launch a new service called "Zeen" -- designed to let users "discover and create beautiful magazines."

It looks like YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen have a new service called "Zeen" -- designed to let users "discover and create beautiful magazines" -- coming soon.
Blog Fusible spotted a teaser page for the site earlier today, at zeen.com. The page features a box that lets visitors reserve a username; links to Zeen's Twitter and Facebook pages; and links to a page of job listings and a privacy policy. The jobs page lives at AVOS.com -- AVOS, of course, being Hurley and Chen's company, and the company that bought Delicious off of Yahoo a little less than a year ago.

We're really excited to show you what we've been working on, and we'll send you an email when it's ready to go. In the meantime, we sent you an email to verify your email address. Please click on the link in the email so we know you're you!

    Bye till then!
YouTube is one of Silicon Valley's best-known success stories. Once dismissed by critics as a place for funny pet videos, the site is now a video archive, teaching tool, digital soap box where politicians go to stump, a means to expose criminals and police wrongdoing, a popular jukebox, and a vital news source for people all over the world. The service was acquired by Google in October 2006 for $1.65 billion.

YouTube Founders to Launch Zeen ? an app for Creating Magazines

According to reports from Fusible, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, the founders of YouTube, are coming up with an app called Zeen that allows users to make beautiful magazines. Just like YouTube, except this time, it?s not videos but magazines.

That is the only information available regarding Zeen according to Fusible, although you can go to zeen.com and sign up with a username for reservation. After creating an account, which you can link with your Twitter or Facebook accounts, Zeen prompts you saying congratulations for signing up to something they?re currently in the process of creating.

Those who signed up will receive further notifications via email when Zeen is already available for use. In the meantime, you can check out their Facebook and Twitter (@zeen) accounts for currently vague updates.

Do-it-yourself apps with easy and elaborate functionality have been getting a lot of success lately in mobile devices. Take the example of Instagram, which allows you to make photos look vintage and stylistic easily. In addition, it becomes more successful when you can share your creations with your friends through social networking sites.

Given Chen?s and Hurley?s success with YouTube, perhaps Zeen can be as successful, giving users the opportunity to create text and photo-ridden magazines without learning the appropriate Adobe software or something similar.

It definitely is a strategy by the YouTube founders to leave everything in suspense and keep users in anticipation of what this whole product is really about and how it works.

It's surprising that it takes-took them so long to come up with and introducing it to masses. There's already flash creating websites, which I presume will drive Zeen 'zeens. And even WP plugins for creating flippable mags at your will. With the right marketing ($$$) anyone can start competing services right now, technology is already there.

I wonder how much the domain cost them, archive.org shows an interesting history.

No I wouldnt go for brand names, say if you registered zeen.com/adidas , you would for sure loose it at a later date. Not worth the effort IMHO.

I made a little checker for this. All you do is upload a keyword file, then for the where to save create a blank notepad file and choose it. This will run through the keyword file and save off the available names.

Took a few good ones I guess, makemoneyonline, internetmarketing, and a good few others. Let's see what this baby can do when it launches.

    Someone also took Blackhatworld, haha.
