    Hey
I try to rank my videos higher, using (for now) standard SEO - tags, description, titles etc.
What I see is that the new videos have much more views in real time than the older ones; I have music channel (hip hop instrumentals) and I wonder if I should try to rank my instrumentals from 2011,2012,2013 by changing titles, tags etc (I of course do that, but I don't see big views boost).

The difference between old videos and new ones is that the new ones are in HD (actually its just a picture and the music, but still its HD) when older ones are in 240 and 360p.

So what would You recommend to me? Try to re-upload old instrumentals and do it in HD and then try to do SEO or is it possible to rank older videos just by SEO, even if they are in low resolutions, for example 360p? Competitors videos are mostly in HD. Is that factor really that important?

My videos from 2011 were very poorly tagged and titled (then I didnt know about that, I only uploaded it with title rap beat etc.) but some of them has over 40k views. So I don't know whats better to do now.

Thank You very much for Your help!

PS. Sorry if its the wrong thread. Im new here and I really apologize if I posted in wrong place.

Depends totally on YouTube's decision. Nobody knows at a 100% how the ranking scheme works, but indeed one of the best ways to get views is appearing on "Related videos" from famous ones. That drives me even more traffic than keyword rank.

I believe I've read somewhere that HD tends to rank better, however I don't think it's a huge ranking factor.
From my experience, changing titles / tags / description later isn't that effective (from SEO perspective)

I personally wouldn't reupload your videos unless you're sure you'll get that many views on the videos again (views are an important ranking factor) but instead bring new content and make sure your old videos are under related videos.

I'm not a YouTube god though, maybe someone else knows more.

Sure, thank You guys for Your answer. Yes, older videos sometimes appear in related section; but anyways - and here's the question to @LordCoder and anyone else who know - whats the best tactic to get featured in related section for some famous vids?

Well it's basically just copying tags and having a similar description.

Yes HD videos will work better since users will surely stick with a video that has better quality rather than a low quality video.
So you will have longer watch time and that will surely help in ranking things

I believe video quality along with the script does the wonders, the video quality alone is not the factor...these two combined together do the damage.

I meant if YouTube gives more rank to videos in HD by itself (cus its still not video, but a picture and music so whatever the resolution of photo is, still what is important there is music)

I'm not 100% on this so try some stuff and see how it works for you. From what I have seen there are a few factors like HD, description and how much interaction seems to give the biggest boosts. Other things I have heard and tried but never checked to see if it actually worked (more or less an "it probably can't hurt" thing). Things I have tried include naming the video (example: if your video is about "how to grow tomatoes" you would name the video file something like "growing_tomatoes.avi" or "how_to_grow_tomatoes.avi"). Another I have tried is keywords and not 432562436346 of them just ones that are relevant to your video like tomatoes or gardening. I "heard" it has to do with the algo using it to figure exactly what your video is about and who it should suggest to or so.

Custom thumbnails seem to help also(could be my imagination, but the videos I have custom thumbs on seem to be doing better than the others).

    Anyway, good luck!
