YouTube's algorithm punishes videos that have comments pinned with an affiliate link!

I have read in several places in this forum that one of the "best" ways to monetize the shorts is with affiliate links....

Well I joined the affiliate program of ExpressVPN which is a relatively well known brand, I have pinned the link on the first two videos shorts today, and both have had a -90% of views than the average videos, something that shows clearly that youtube does not allow you to do that by cutting you all the reach and killing in several days the channel if you keep doing the same.

The problem is that the shorts, unlike the long videos, have the description hidden and 99.9% of users never go through it, something that makes any attempt at advertising totally unviable. So taking into consideration that through the comments you can't do it either, we can close this experiment and conclude: you can't earn money in a "white" way using affiliate links in youtube shorts, at least in a "white" way, maybe spaming hundreds of videos in random channels can give results, something that I don't know.

Did I do something wrong or what could have happened? :S

I posted a third video and even without adding the affiliate link in the comments, the video is still dead in the eyes of the algorithm.

It seems that it was some kind of punishment to the channel in general....

It's coming to a point, Youtube shorts have a silent punishment that nobody knows about. They simply will not allow you to jump on there and upload 100's of videos and get easily paid for it. Although it does sound enticing which is part of there miserable plan and they will know you will join, Because of the easy monetize situation. "In reality it's just going to be hard work like everything else in life" It's not so easy now eh ?

I see that you uploaded all the three short videos today only. One day is a very short duration in YouTube to come to any conclusion. Try again for at least 2 to 3 days and then observe the results.

Yes, sometimes YouTube is very unpredictable. One has to have a lot of patience working with it.

Looking at this logically, YouTube, just like any other social media platform don't want their users to leave the platform at any cost. It's totally obvious when they introduced shorts. They want to keep users on their platform for as long as possible.

Your best bet is to put a watermark link in video itself. It won't be too long until YouTube starts burying those videos too, thanks to image recognition AI.

Is there a solution for this in the future?

I don't think so. Because you are on someone else's platform and ultimately it's you who will bend the knee.

It is not about affiliate links in comments / description, etc in YouTube shorts or normal YouTube videos.
The issue is that YouTube's algorithms do not "see" your videos as worthy to suggest (recommend).

Yeah, youtube punishes cpm rates for long form videos that affiliate links in the description as well. Youtube wants people staying on their platform, not leaving it, as the longer they stay on the platform, the mre ads and money they can generate from each user.

How the heck this content gets this many views ans published today? :D well had I known this…..

This is the video I just posted WITHOUT the affiliate link:

Yes, they aren't able to known unless they manually check, which isn't going to happen. You're not pushing shady shit, it's just a VPN.

I doubt that this will help, I remember that in TikTok they banned me even if I chained a linktree with beacons...

Have you already tested it on videos that rely heavily on the algorithm and you didn't noticed any changes?

I don't know how it will be in small channels, but in relatively large channels it is quite common to have the whole description full of affiliate links, here's an example:

So at least if you don't promote something "spicy" I think it's ok to have affiliate links in the description of the long videos.

But in this post we're talking about pinning them in the comments....

lol, you really think they don't follow short urls to the destination? C'mon, even if you hate them you have to admit they have better coders than that.
