I had this video for over 4 months now. It had been sitting pretty around the second page. I figured when it got clsoer to the top Id put the link in description. Well I did that and the second after I did its now disappeared from rankings.

Anyone else find this? I hope they dont 'manually review' the links :(

I know in the past Id put links on at the start and didnt have a problem rnaking so maybe ill have to do that, just put the links in as I make the video the first time. Or maybe the rules have changed and that wouldnt work either now.

YouTube certainly has an algo to decrease self-promotion and all that stuff.
But in the end quality/views/social matters most. If you have loyal viewers/subs (real people, not fakes) then a bunch of links will do you no harm :)

It will probably bounce back. I've made some changes in the description and had this happen and it did, it's like their algoirithm is reassessing the new information.

Interesting, what type of link was it and was it shortened by bit.ly? I've noticed a lot of platforms hate URL shorteners .

The previous poster asked a very pertinent question - was it a shortened url or a normal one?
