I have seen many sites where you type in youtube' video url and finally it lets you download the .flv file. Does anyone know how its done?

I mean, the youtube links are like youtube.com/watch?v=videocode

So what mod should be made to the url for downloading the video as .flv file directly?

    Thanks,
    Carty..

    Home Page:
There are many softwares you can use to download youtube videos. Try ultraget, its good as you can parse html/text file. Just put the video urls, 1 per line in notepad then save. Parse it and ultraget will download all the vids. And its free.

If you look at the headers of the request when you watch a video, you can see the url to the flv and download it, or easily write software to do so. :)

    GET /get_video?video_id=v5m3xZOJi7g&signature=CEC755A51367EAC***********morevariableshere******* HTTP/1.1

Thanks a lot people. After a hel lot of search, i found this

    hxxp://cache.googlevideo.com/get_video?video_id=VIDEOID&origin=youtube.com

replacing video id in the above url will directly let you download the video.

    Regards,
    Carty..

Does anyone know of any script to convert YouTube videos directly on server from flv-mpg? Search resulted ytconverter but that website seems to be down.

Can anyone make a small php script like that? Using FFmpeg, the videos can be converted it seems. Say a php script which takes video id through a variable in the url, download flv file with above code in previous post, convert it to mpg using flv and then finally throw out the new link to download converted mpg file?

    Thanks again,
    Carty.

You need to replace VIDEOID in that url to a real video id. For example, open youtube and click on any video, the url gives utube.com/watch?v=VIDEOID

Use that and you can download the flv

checkout "sothink" Firefox plugin. So cool.

Any website you browse that have .flv video, it will prompt you if you want it to download. Even flash media files.

Comes with FLV Player as well.

Indeed, this is the one that works best for me. Not being any sort of coder, I rely on this type of soft to get what I require.
