YouTube has begun live testing its newest generative AI feature, offering its content inspiration tool to select YouTube Studio users.

As explained by YouTube:

"To help creators decide what to create and share next, we're testing a new tool that uses AI to suggest content ideas. If you're part of the experiment, you can access this feature by going to Studio > Analytics > Research on desktop, where you'll find recommendations for content to create and share on YouTube."

YouTube has been testing this feature internally for a while, with Johanna Voolich, the platform's Chief Product Officer, sharing more details about the process last month.

In essence, the tool will offer content suggestions and insights based on viewer trends, helping creators brainstorm ideas for their next video.

YouTube explains that the tool will help creators identify topics their viewers want to see more of, as well as explore fresh angles for creative concepts. However, a potential concern is that since the tool is based on existing content, many of the recommendations might end up being derivative, as it can only highlight what’s already resonating rather than predict what’s next. This could lead to a surge in similar types of content.

On the other hand, leveraging trends can boost interest and engagement, and by tying these suggestions to user behavior, there may still be significant value in the insights provided.

Only time will tell. YouTube notes that the feature is currently available to a small group of channels publishing videos in English, with plans to expand access soon.
