I'm curious. Has anyone made money from uploading gaming videos to YouTube?

My brother is a Minecraft player and he watched Minecraft videos all day on YouTube. I notice one of the channels he watches has over a million subscribers! Most have over 100,000. I've also seen the same for Fifa and Call of Duty channels.

I play a lot of games, and I'm pretty good at Fifa. I'm thinking about getting a capture card and uploading videos daily.

But is it worth it? Do these YouTubers make good money from that many hits from YouTube adverts?

try for a month and see the results. People can give you their experience (if they are doing it) but still, executing will be the best strategy :)

I didn't do it, but i am quite sure, that on youtube people wants to watch (almost anything) and YT is paying for it too. So, try and get more views, subscribers using legit methods and you'll see something.

I agree about taking action. I will take action don't worry about that, but was just wondering from others. Would be excellent to play games all day and make money from it lol!

The Fifa niche is pretty much dominated by this dude ... /user/KSIOlajidebt (sorry cant post links)

He must be banking a large wedge of cash.

If you monetize the method which involves fun and experience then you can have the best life ever :)

I know a friend who monetizes DOTA 2 channel. MEthod is simple - build a brand around it (branded YT videos + website + facebook). His brand was even featured in some magazines and some other websites. Monetization was simple with adsense and he was making $2-$3k per month but it was not much. 2-3 months back advertisers asked him to show a 5-6 second commercial of their products before every video. He did that and now makes over $15K or something per month. His biggest advertisers include some messengers (online chat like skype), hardwares etc.

But yeah you need very quality videos + conversions (many comments + feedback per video to qualify for this). But as far as i know you cannot reach out to the advertisers yourself. Brokers (or whatever they call them) are always on lookout for you.

Remember building a brand is a must. You cannot just create a channel - get 100,000 subscribers and call it a success :)

    Regards,

Excellent response! When you say brand what do you mean exactly? I.E. a brand being "The Fifa Pro" and then have a FB page, a Twitter, and have a professional intro on each video etc?

I'm personally not a youtube gamer, because it seems so saturated no matter which niche you go into. I think the most important thing is to have a unique style of commentating.

Anyways, good luck, these type of channels require years of work. Unless of course you go viral :)

Yes the commentating seems to be pretty important.

I'm out to get a Hauppauge capture card in a moment and will give this a try today. I think I'm not going to record commentary until after I've recorded the video. That way I get more control over what I say. It's just going to be difficult to make it seem as if I was talking as I was playing. Practice I guess.

Thanks for all the tips guys and girls.

From what I've read, successful channels receive between $3 and $5 per 1000 views. I am not sure accurate that is though.

The niche is soooo saturated that you will need something brilliant to make decent money out of it. Still I'd do it just for the fun of it.

Yes, I think 99% of the successful gaming channels didn't even do it for money. They done it for the fun of it. I think that's the key here. Just have some fun.

No ones going to watch a new guy play minecraft there's always like 5 or 7 guys who are always on the front page even if their videos suck. So unless you pump tons of cash into getting over 100K views a day on your videos you won't stand a chance. Unless you're a minecraft animator people love those videos.

minecraft, starcraft, league of legends, blizzard games. Adsense allows you to monetize, so long as you can word the claim properly but they can take up to 5 months to approve ads.

No choice but to join a network. When you are with a network, soon as you upload a video, ads are turned on be default. Most networks do not have permission from game companies to monetize gaming videos but they allow you to put ads on them anyway. Payout ranges for networks can be low as $1.00 to around $9.00 per 1,000 views for the majority of youtubers. The only benefit with being on a network budget is payout terms, they can get higher paying ads on videos. The payout rate can vary over time. Before applying to networks, wait until you have at least 10,000 stable monthly views and 1,000 subscribers.

When you are record gaming videos, ALWAYS MUTE THE MUSIC. Stay away from nintendo/microsoft video games.
