I really want to get a lot of work done with my websites but I just don't have the time... so I've been looking at oDesk to hire a couple VA's. One for link-building and SEO, and another for writing & spinning content.

I have a budget of about $150 per week (max) to spend. I don't mind paying a bit more for the content ($5/hr, in that range) but I'm thinking about going ultra cheap for the SEO, $1-$2.

My ideal plan is to hire a couple excellent, cheap workers who can do 75% of the work of running my online businesses without me having to do much at all except for managing them and keeping an eye on how my sites are doing.

Has anyone taken this route, building an online empire from scratch by outsourcing nearly every task? Have you been successful? Can I really expect to get good results by paying a foreigner $1/hour to do my SEO or it generally accepted that you need to shell out more money for quality SEO work...?

Thanks for reading & I look forward to the responses.

I tried to hire a few writers when i had too much work to handle. It was a horrible experience.

I'm sure there are a few out there but i suppose you have to take the time to try them out first. I was desperate to get work done at the time and i think one of them even sent me 5 articles straight from wikipedia, which they then managed to spell words wrong from.

My experience has been pretty bad - but I think it depends on your expectations.... and how well
you can communicate your needs to the person and how willing they are to work with you.
(I am a pretty demanding person so keep that in mind)

The problems I have come across are :

    1. a Company that thought that copy / pasting 20 things a day was a full days work
    2. once you make the first payment = then they have a sore arm or leg and won't be
around for a week or so
    3. internet speeds are slower in other parts of the world - so this slows their work down.
    4. they are a different time zone - so it's alot harder to manage them especially if they need
help and it's 1 am where you are.

These are some of the things I came across and just gave up - prefering to use more single service
    providers.

    Good Luck.

Would you recommend relying on BST services from here (articles, link building) rather than going to oDesk route?

Yesterday I hired an SEO/link building guy from oDesk at around $3/hr. It was an impulsive decision and I'm kinda regretting it, but I don't want to fire him before he's even done any work for me. However, I'm concerned because so far he's taken 12 hours to respond to every message I've sent him. I understand he's on a polar opposite time zone than I am, but still!

In my experience it starts well but quickly heads south!

If you're gonna try it make sure you give them a daily and weekly target. Then make sure at least 30% of their pay requires meeting the targets.

(they also seem to have quite a few tropical storms which knocks out the internet for days on end)

I would definitely not hire any SEO link builders from odesk to do SEO.

THe best way to do this is to find guys off odesk that really want to work and really want to learn. It takes some time and you will go through a lot of guys, but you need to find those A players. Then train them yourself.

People off odesk don't know shit! It is so cheap because they learn they can make money doing seo and posting links on forums.

Seems like you might not know SEO very well and let me tell you... Just like anything, if you don't know how to do it yourself you are going to have a very big problem with outsourcers doing it for you.

PM me if you need some assistance

I'm still not convienced to hire a guy to do my dirty work. However I would start with some services from BHW's BST section. I'm sure that it's less risky then trying unknown odesk staff.

Right now oDesk became a kind of Social Sites.. Free to Join and free to Create Profile... Every one is a SEO Expert but didn't know a Simple thing.. I tried to get Worker for my Forum Posting and Actual Page PR Links.. And what I got..?? Every one show me a Sample of Paul and Angela or Normal Forum Profile for Forum Posting work.. Many of them didn't know about the Difference between Domain PR and the Page PR..

And it's more Irritating to Find a Good one from the Bulk Application.. Last Time I got around 350 Application for my Web 2.0 Site Creation.. oDesk must change their terms like Elance else Buyer will leave from odesk Shortly...

Well sooner or later, you're going to have to outsource your work if you want to get large. The issue isn't with hiring VA's, the issue is with the individual VA's - good people are going to lighten your load and bad people are going to be liabilities to your company. I'd say go ahead and start interviewing prospective VA's, but make sure that you test them before you hire them. And remember - attitude is much more important than ability - especially in the long term

Thanks for the replies everyone... my enthusiasm for outsourcing my work has dwindled a little bit, lol.

I do know SEO pretty well, or at least I like to think I do. I've been doing affiliate marketing off and on since 2008, so I'm not a newbie. I do know that stuff like Angela's backlinks are outdated and don't really work, and I've been keeping track of the new panda/penguin updates.

I want to make a really SERIOUS, continuous effort right now to making a bunch of sites and growing my (currently very small) affiliate marketing & adsense income. My problem is that I just don't have time between taking care of two small children and running two other home-based businesses that comprise my main income. I can fit MAYBE 2 hours a day, but I wanted to outsource so I could get a whole lot more stuff done much faster.

Dude, you can do it, but first you will need to know what you want and where to find the people that can do what you want.

Odesk is probably not the place bro :)

The best people you can hire for your IM projects will be hanging around on IM forums such as this one, WF, TP, BHT, WaFo etc.

Go to the market sections on the forums and read the reviews and read on methods shared for free... the free stuff is normally more genuine and honest then the paid for version in ebooks.

False, you can hire people or automate it... computers are a lot better than VAs.

The best VA is going to have the efficacy of about 20-25% of an SEOer that knows what he's doing and is smart...
Maybe less, depending on what you assign him to do.

I gave raw lists of ******** blogs and all he had to do was go through them, try to post a comment with a link dropped, and aggregate them into a list if they were successful.

Took me 2 hrs to go through the list, took the VA I tried this on about 3 days...
