I have a couple of customers that want to only pay by check instead of automatic recurring billing to their credit card or electronic check. One guy says he was scammed and won't pay by credit card again... They both signed one year contracts and live in the same state as me.

I much rather would have preferred it autobilled to their credit card but I didn't want to jeapordize the sale so I decided to risk it and let them mail a check... I regret this as I feel it gives them more control. Both clients have been in business many years. Only time will tell if I will have to chase them for money. I auto-invoice them via Freshbooks. Would like to hear others experiences.

Surprisingly most of my clients pay by check instead of credit-card, I don't really have too much of an issue with it.

I do occasionally run into the situation where I DON'T receive a check (when I should be) and at that point I usually just send a polite e-mail asking for payment and pretty much refuse to answer any questions they might have.

More often than not it due to an assistant or what may have you taking a few extra days to cut the check.

All in all it's pretty much just an extra run to the bank for myself - haven't had any outstanding problems with it at this point.

Hey there's nothing wrong with being flexible
sometimes it's just easier for them from an accounting perspective.
I Use Freshbooks to invoice with on those occassions
never had a problem from that end. I look at it like this if they want to pay me $5 - $10k per month on a company check it's all good plus less fees etc.
and you have a solid contract, plus a few cashed checks, that's all you need to go to small claims court and win.
I've also had success with some clients adding me to their auto-bill pay at their bank
which still cuts a check and mails it me but it's guaranteed money.
    Just some food for thought

This makes me feel much better... Over the course of the contract I save about $600 in merchant fees. That's nothing to sneeze at.
