Hey Guys,

I am writing this message as a young freelance web designer who is looking to get into the buiness and get more work. I want some tips on how any now succesful web designers managed to esbalish themselfs in the market, and how they got there first few peices of work, and if anyone knows some where i can get some first work then please let me know.

Thanks for reading,
Nathan Sargeant

I designed, built and done SEO on volunteer/charity sites for free, one a kids with cancer site got featured on a morning show which was shown nation wide and on a TV commercial which was shown during prime time for about 4 weeks. Sites like this can bring a ton of exposure.

The other good thing is these charity type sites often have big Pagerank and traffic due to links from governments and such things. Drop your link in the design, you will get direct click throughs and rank better which will bring paying customers.

If i were you i would look at the places like GetAfreeLancer.com, Scriptlance.com and others like those. Thats where i started and you soon build up nice relationships with business owners.

Once you establish yourself with a few clients you will find that word of mouth will grown and you'll gradually start getting busier and busier.

just do some cool stuff for free to show folks what you can do. Then you can charge them and eat :) Your integrity is all you can carry with you on this journey so make sure it is in good shape ALWAYS!

I've gotten involved at my local church and the word-of-mouth referrals are still coming in. That being said, try to work within an established network of people.

Check out rentacoder as well as CL both in your local city as well as nation wide. Start your rates off at maybe about 8-10 an hour and move up from there as your portfolio and experience grows.
