3D Piracy Takes a New Twist

Filesharing as we know it involves transferring 0s and 1s that usually turn into pixels and electronic sounds. But if The Pirate Bay?s latest idea takes off, filesharing ? and digital piracy ? will get a whole lot more physical.
In what appears to be as much as a publicity stunt as a serious feature, the site has added a new category alongside the usual audio, video, applications, and games. The physibles category is intended for data that either can, or feasibly could, become a physical object.
Specifically the site is thinking of data for 3D printers, a concept that sounds like science fiction but already exists.

I have one of these (not from them, their printer quality sucks because they focus way too much on promoting their machine, makergear is way to go... mosaic :) )

EDIT: also dual extrusion is experimental still and it has flaws, hopefully engineers will sort those problems in near future.
EDIT2: i wish this technology would advance in a warp speed cause i have been printing out my 3D models with laser printer :) Should post some pics some day if i feel like it.

I smell fake views on that video, comparing the likes and views it doesn't fit at all :)

Well 3D Printers have been out there for a while but not big of a trend, which was surprising to me, maybe too expensive? Haven't really done research.

I like the idea of a 3D Printer, soon you won't need to buy toys for your child, you just build it yourself, if a knob brakes you just build one etc, good idea.

Damn, i heard one scientist says in the video that within 20-40 years, we would be able to send bread toasters via email digitally and I was like, impossible. Now I understand what it's about.

Now I know how china makes those wires and accessories.

ah, c'mon. This is all retarded hype and bullshit. These 3d "printers" build layers of plastic on top of plastic. One material: Plastic. And one kind of plastic, too.

People have taken this somewhat-interesting idea and turned it into a Star Trek replicator.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicator_(Star_Trek)

I'm tired of reading about these stupid things. It makes lumps of plastic in any shape you want, so fucking what? How many times a day does one get completely STOPPED due to a shortage of a piece of plastic? I find plastic all over the place. In the street, in the trash can, on the floor of my truck. It's like reading the same National Enquirer story over & over again. "Teen downloads automatic weapon using 3d printer; anti-gun coalition is up in arms". Please.

Yes, for now it's only plastic, but this technology has huge potential. I think i saw movie on discovery about future of 3D printers - there are prototypes working with organic matter already. In 10-15 years one will be able to print own breakfast, not to mention medicine applications ( transplants ).

    3d Printing cost a heart.
It's not free. In fact, it's the exact opposite.

There isn't just plastic. Didn't you see the video of 3D printer using metal powder and laser, making metal parts?

Yes, that's all well & good. So maybe it's more complex than plastic, so what? You've missed my point which is that something interesting has been turned into a big fat lie. It's not a "replicator", it's not making automatic weapons, it won't make you a real-life replacement for your blow-up doll. It's an upgrade for injection molding. It's interesting; exciting even. But it's not assembling individual molecules into anything you can imagine.

So, a few of you said you have one of these 3D printers? Can you post some pics of the printer and/or of something you have printed?

yep but it allows more complex structures than injection molding, as for example you can scan someone's broken bone, and print a replacement part, or structure that fits perfectly and can/could help in a recovery process, just a very simple (but yet very useful) application that 3d printing have.

just to be annoying someone has made guns with them that can fire but obviously being made of plastic they break very quickly

    Home Page:
And everyone said the same thing about 2d printing. "Why would you ever care enough to have a big, expensive machine in your house when you can just go to the nearest printing center?"

If you don't see the enormous potential of this industry you're painfully ignorant. This technology will revolutionize manufacturing as we know it.
