'you are in this city' script

Hi members,

Looking for a while for a script that i can use in my new website.

I want to have a script that can say for instance ' hi you live near New York' or something, depending of the IP.

Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

You can get them little images that tell people their ip address and hostname, no idea how they work but Im sure theres loads of custom ones out there, most people have them as their forum signatures

you need an IP to State/City database. These can be had for about $30, though some people offer them for free if you ask nicely.

Keep in mind these are FAR from precise. We use a fairly expensive paid version that while the DB works alot of the time, it is far from comprehensive. ISPs are also lazy giving IPs out and will often give people in nearby towns / cities IPs that do not reflect where they come from.
