Ok well last night I posted an ad on CL for a "Beautiful Home in Adam's Farm- $495/mo"....I woke up this morning with about 25 emails. I emailed about half of them back saying

"Thank you for the inquiry. We are speaking to a lot of tenants and we have a few other homes available.

We will only speak to renters with a credit report from free credit report. com. We've seen some fraudulent reports lately and this is a well known company and should garner some trust. You can get the report here triadhomes.site90.net. Let us know when you credit report is complete as soon as possible so that we can make sure you are qualified.

Again, thank you for your inquiry.
    Triadhomes
    triadhomes.site90.net"

So my hope was that they would do the offer and then I would get credit. Well I responded to one woman, and about 2 minutes later, she emails me back with this:

"This operation has been reported to the authorities."

Now I'm freaking out. I hope she is bluffing, but I removed my ad anyways. Can I get in trouble for this? Can anyone with the authority to get me in trouble ever find me?

I had the same thing happen several months ago, was told I was being reported to CL and to local authorities. Nothing has happened since, basically these people think you are trying to get their personal info. I am thinking if the police or CL actually look into it, they are smart enough to realize you and I are just affiliates.

Just tell em you've set up a lead service for prescreened tennants in the area, and ask them what "operation" they are talking about.

Well I hope I don't hear anything from CL or anyone else. I can see how people think that I want their personal information. So I think it was JohhnyPro that orginally posted this method here, so how did he get away with this? I know if I was the person trying to buy a home and I got that email, I would think they were tying to get my info too.

I think I'm going to see what the other people I emailed do. I guess I just wait and see now. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Is anyone doing this method with success?

Don't worry about it, no one can do shit, you're sending them to a legit site, not a site stealing their personal info. Their mistake, not yours, don't be so skitish. The authorities won't be too interested in her report if she even filed one.

Dude she cant do shit, nor does she probably even know where to begin. Plus would do u think would actually happen. She calls the local police, they login to CL?!?!? and read the post. OK... they realize u could be free anytown, usa and thats that.

not to mention how do they know its an operation, u could be a legitimate homeowner renting ur shit and whats wrong with asking for a creditreport. Your not taking their money.

lonny and style are probably right. I guess I'm just paranoid because I have never done anything like this before. I'm on a University connection, so I guess me thinking to myself that if anything happens, I could get kicked out of school or something, doesn't help the situation.

No I didn't use a proxy at all. I was just posting one ad, so I didn't think I had to.

Don't worry about it, she can do anything. I don't know what "authorities" she is talking about but she can't do anything to you. You didn't do anything illegal. As long as you weren't trying to retrieve personal information for the purpose of identity theft your fine. Don't worry about it. I did something similar to this once and got like 6 of these e-mails. All of them something like "The police have been notified" "This operation has been reported" "I notified the authorities and they are investigating you". In short nothing happened and i went on about my business doing the same thing.

Always use a proxy when doing anything blackhat. You will be fine though. Think about it...... what exactly did you do that was illegal..... Nothing.

lol its another i-net savvy individual pulling your strings.
i receive mail like this all the time, I wouldn't worry too much and if you do worry, as secretboy said use elite proxys.
Imagine if you was looking for a rental home and received your email reply would you post something similar?
You can't pull wool over everybody's eyes, at the same time it would be hard for her to prove anything untoward, "the authorities" would prolly screw up the paper notes they taken the minute she put the phone down lol

Like everyone else has said, CL will just look into it and see your an afil, I mean shit, they remove us everyday.

If you were actually phishing then you'd be in for trouble, you weren't, anyone who looks into it knows you weren't.

    Stuff her.

You should respond and tell her to fuck off!! You have anything to be worried about. Your ad will be removed and that is about as far as it will go.

Phew. Ok good. I'm more relieved now. I will respond to the rest of the people that email me, but I'm not sure I will try this again with houses. Maybe cars would be better. But thanks for everyone's advice, I will definitely use proxies next time.

Yeah I was just scared. But I only had one ad so it wasn't a big deal. If I wanted to, I could just post the same ad again in a different city. But like I said, I think I'm gonna try doing car ads instead. I don't know all the housing terms, but I know a shit-load about cars. I can B.S car ads better :D.

I been running this offer since I seen it 3 wks ago and I havent had any issues. But I would think they cant really do anything. How are they technically going to report you? Its not like its even in your city.
