Hi everyone, I've been a long time lurker of this forum and have had some success with adsense and blogging a little over 2 years ago that lasted about 6 months before I got rocked by Google. I got discouraged because I thought it would stay autopilot forever and I was spoiling myself with the money I was making. Since then, I've been working a regular 9-5 job and I'm tired of it. I've tried different methods and strategies and my problem is that I don't stay focus and test different plans of attack on the same method. This time it will be different.

My plan is to use Clickbank because the product already exists and it's easy to see what is selling, what has the right amount of competition, etc. The product I am targeting is something that not everyone needs or wants, but so often I hear people talk about wanting it. The gravity is currently is 26 and in my preliminary research, people were saying target gravity up to a maximum of 50-60. The initial sales price is very good at 75% and it is a shippable product.
In order to drive visitors to my affiliate link, my plan is to try a few different methods but most of them involve PPC from bing. Adwords is too strict and costs to much, although I suspect that the quality of traffic is better on adwords than bing. Bing allows a lot more leniency in where you link to so that is of value in the case of affiliate marketing.

The first way I am getting visitors to my link is direct linking using an .htaccess redirect. I have a few private domains from godaddy and what I had to do was create an .htaccess file and put the redirect to my affiliate link because godaddy didnt have one by default, at least on my site. From some testing I did, .htaccess redirect is the fastest method of redirection over PHP and HTML. htaccess is kind of weird because the syntax is so foreign, but the alternative is a 301 redirect that I know works very well and is similar fast to an htaccess redirect. I created a Bing ads campaign for my target market with 2 exact match keywords that have a reasonable CPC and good amounts of impressions. In there, I put the domain name of the site I created the htaccess file on so instead of direct linking to the affiliate link, it goes to my domain name and then straight to the affiliate link before you even notice the domain name. While this thinking may be wrong, I figure because the product clearly sells, why not let the product creators sale page do the work for you? Why go spend a ton of time writing reviews manually to have unique content when the product creator has already spent tons of time creating a sales page that surely he's split tested. Whether this works in my case has yet to be decided.

My tools and costs so far are as totaled:
Domain name + hosting from godaddy: $17 (bought previous to this journey, but because im using it im going to include the cost)
Bing ads account: free to create and then of course the cost of the keywords chose. Keywords are between $1-$1.90 cpc. Budget is $10/day. That is low but I just need to see how this goes for a few days.
    Clickbank account: free

Basically, the initial investment is low although PPC can add up quickly. I am probably forgetting things about this journey, but that's the point. We can continue to discuss and learn as we go along. I am not setting a goal except to make more money than I've spent, obviously. This is an investment in myself and affiliate marketing as a whole. I'm very excited to see how this goes over the coming days and weeks. Thanks for joining me and lets kick this off.

Questions/comments/concerns? Let me know and ill answer what I can or explain more

I totally forgot that I have my first campaign in progress. It has sent 9 hops to my affiliate link but no conversions as of yet. We shall see as the day goes on.
PS, thank you to Bing for insta approving my campaign lol

For such priced KWs, I would be probably looking for cheaper alternative. Hopefully you will be able to stay in black numbers, but there is a long journey before you, so good luck.
Are you planning to add some more products or just this one?

Thank you. By black numbers, what do you mean?
I think I will continue to explore so I don't spend a bunch of money on something that never converts. I have a few other products in mind so potentially I'll add them if I don't see anything from this first one in the coming days

Good Luck to you through your journey

    Few things to consider:
-Collecting the leads yourself =>Send to Offer + Continous Marketing (long term income)
-Targeting Cheaper Keywords - Having used Bing a fair amount, I know you can pay much less for clicks ;)
-Buy Some Bing Advertising Coupon Packs and save yourself some money testing. Realistically $10/day is not enough to test, unless your running a $5 cpa, which your not
-Split Test your ads, landing pages, offers, etc

    thank you!

I've actually been thinking a lot about missing out on capturing emails and stuff but the thing about that is I don't yet want to introduce too many variables. I definitely recognize the potential loss, but I will attack that later on down the line.
I just went back and looked and my CPC for the main keyword is actually $0.52 but the max cpc is $1.5, which is where I got that number from. 50 cents is much more reasonable.
These packs you're talking about, its not like days gone by in adwords where you could only use 1 coupon?

In regards to those packs, I'm pretty sure it's only a one time use for adwords. However, bing sometimes allows you to use more than one coupon on special occasions. It's a bit rare to find these coupons but you do get lucky sometimes.

Yeah, that is what I'm seeming to find out but there are quite a few different options so it should work.

Thank you and good luck to you as well!
Awesome, hopefully we both do well and can make this a reality

First day update. So, I started my campaign early yesterday morning on Bing and today I've had only 5 ad clicks at 659 impressions so my CTR is 0.76%. That leads me to believe I need to work on my ad copy more. I'm going to try to update it and see how the next few days go. My total spend has been $3.19 so not too bad but almost $1 per click. The final thing is that my average position is 2 and I would like to be 1. One sale on Clickbank would mean that could instantly invest $50 into bing. Let's hope that sale comes sometime soon

Question for you guys... On clickbank stats when it shows "hop count" and that number is, lets say, 20 how often does that number count for an order form impression? Right now I'm at 14 hops (a couple of which were definitely me) and it shows 0 order form impressions. My sample size is so small at the moment its hard to know. Any ideas from the larger guys?

By black numbers I mean that you earn more on CB than spend on Bing. You should always have more campaigns running so you can compare conversions, quality score, keywords that people click, ...

Well, I haven't actually found my ad out in the wild to test which ill now do for sure, but clicking the ad inside the campaign manager redirects me to the sales page as intended, so the answer appears to be yes

I am going to calculate my bids based on 2% conversion rate. I've heard it should be a good conservative number to start with if you have decent landing page and targeted clicks until you get more data. Do you have quality score for your ad? With your ctr, are you bidding on broad kw?

Got it, I was going to figure 3% but 2% is obviously safer.
Quality score for my ad is 7/10 according to bing and I'm actually bidding on exact at the moment. Broad is cheaper so I need to change it I think. What do you do?

7/10 is nice especially if you are direct linking! I am going to target phrase and exact buyer keywords. I will stay away from broad unless the volume is too low. But again, I am a noob..lol I am just going by what I read here and a few books I picked up within the last few days. Maybe I should create my thread too so we can compare stats. I am about to launch first campaign today. Almost done with landing page. But I am not doing direct linking. I will be creating landing pages as I really don't like many clickbank sales pages and I have a feeling .. warming up may work better for conversions.

Yeah, it's definitely good. That's a good idea because there are plenty of junk sales pages that are more abrasive and don't focus on the art of selling. The product I'm targeting has a great page and so I think that's why the landing page is scoring well. You're welcome to create your own thread or tag along on mine, I don't mind

    Next update:

So, now that I changed my bid on bing from exact to broad match, I have significantly more clicks but none of them have converted yet...
I have 57 hops to clickbank but every other stat is 0. Sales page impressions, order form server calls, etc. those are all 0. is that normal?

My bing spending so far is $17.39. CTR is is pretty low at 0.44% and average of position 2.3 on page.

Any thoughts regarding my stats so far?

Have you checked what kw queries generated hops? Maybe they are not buyer keywords. Did you add any negative keywords (like "free" etc)? Also, I noticed some CB vendors have affiliate generator form where you can cloak destination url and it will clean up all hop id and parameters. I would experiment with different keywords and ad copies. Are you rotating ads or you just have 1 ad for this campaign?

I have no results to report yet. I created campaign and got landing page done but it seems I cannot setup tracking with prosper202 properly. I hope to start campaign today. I was thinking trying direct linking but after reading bing rules.. not sure if I want to take a chance. I know they are not cracking down on direct linking yet but read "Bing ads Relevance and quality guidelines." Not sure if I want to take a chance on this and then dealing with banned account.
