This journey was inspired by legendary zen19's topic "40million in 10,000 Hours". I think that I've picked up the idea. Moreover, I believe it's possible and see how it's possible to build such system. Though I have almost no experience in IM or email marketing, I am rather familiar with classic marketing. English is my second language, which may or may not make things harder. My approach will be slightly different than that of zen19, because I firmly believe that most of great things are done by teams. Also, I have no budget to start with (may be, 200-300 eur per month at most), so this will be a tricky part. On Thursday I spent few hours explaining the system to potential team members. They are both Java programmers. One specializes in low-level java toolkit development and has experience in webdev, another in webdev and large-scale Oracle databases. Both have 4+ year experience. They felt interested right off the bat, but started understanding the system only after today's meeting. As for my background, I am project manager with 6 years experience in advertising and marketing field. On Friday, using some other connections, I met with a guy, who is building a global scale web portal. He's planning to sell around 350k units of his digital subscription-type product during this year, so he might be possibly interested in buying something akin hubspot but customized to his needs. More important, he has got a budget for this kind of things. So, I am crossing fingers and doing best to seal the deal with him, it would help a lot on the way to building own system. Some tech. details for geeks: We will build most of the system using Java Some parts like templates will be built using PHP PostgreSQL will be used for database with possible switch to Oracle if we meet some tech. constraint in Postgre We will possibly outsource templates and minor stuff. Sure, it's possible to make it on PHP+MySQL, but we want to make it scalable right from the start. We will track our dev/research/brainstorm/testing time. Say, we have 10000 hours per team member excl. outsourced jobs to meet our goal. Conceive, Plan, Develop, Test, Launch, Measure, (Optimize, Measure, Scale), Rinse, Repeat. Nice motto.
