No way, they are already following the EXACT same usage and traffic trending as Myspace did before failing completely. Facebook is a big huge turd.

Yahoo is on a buying spree as they are completely re-structuring the company.

My company is their next target :D

As I posted in the Lounge yesterday about this deal happening, Yahoo! approved it this morning. I have also heard rumors swirling about Yahoo! making a huge push on Tumblr to de-index and find every loophole possible to rid the site of XXX and pornography. Artistic nudes and nudity will be allowed, but the Yahoo! board has apparently told tumblr to take a stronger stance in ridding the website of penetration pornography, xxx, and xxx gifs/movies.

Just some FYI for those of you running harcore tumblr sites, watch out for the ban hammer and start building other properties to make up for money you may lose.

Bloomberg Businessweek has a pretty good article about Yahoo!'s purchase of Tumblr called If Yahoo! Buys Tumblr, What Will They Do With All That Porn? (you can Google, I'm new and can't post links). I guess Businessweek's feeling is that it could go either way. On the one hand Yahoo! won't want to deal all of the "adult" content on Tumblr but on the other hand if they get rid of it and start banning it they will end up driving away a large number of the users they are desperately trying to (and desperately need to) reach. As for me, I am a beginning adult affiliate marketer and I am not taking any chances with or wasting time and resources on Tumblr if Yahoo! is going to be involved. I don't have a good feeling about this. Maybe we will all get lucky and the deal will fall apart.

yahoo needs tumblr. yahoo doesn't have a strong hold on anything. not news, mail or search. people don't really interact with yahoo. tumblr has engaged users and a lot of them. this is part of yahoo's re-branding probably. into what? not sure.

Huge risk involved here, but as usual as all the hallmarks are of a new CEO trying to make a mark so down the road they can secure a 'head held high' multi million dollar pay off when they get asked to step down as in FIRED!

Exactly. The first thing Ms. Whats-Her-Name did when she took over Yahoo! was to screw over all of the telecommuters that work for them so my heart sank when I heard the news about Tumblr. As someone said in an earlier post "Yahoo! is where companies go to die". My prediction is that this will not help Yahoo!, it will ruin Tumblr and, yeah, Ms. Whoever will be "fired" and walk away with millions and millions anyway. I was hoping to get started as an adult affiliate without spending a lot of money but I guess I will go ahead and get signed up with HostGator and just have my own little site. Probably save me a lot of aggravation in the long run.

I just read a post saying that yahoo will implement ads on tumblr for monetization and also that they are not going to almost touch what's tumblr is, just improve search functionality.

Let's see if the adult side of the social network will persist.

Yeah, I just read an article, "Yahoo! Buys Tumblr for 1.1 Bln, Vows Not to Screw it Up".

Yahoo! claims they are not concerned about Tumblr's adult content but that they will be implementing search functions and tools so that users and advertisers can target very specific content.

I would love to be able to believe this, I guess we'll see.
