Last night site explorer was showing around 950 links and today I randomly checked and I am seeing only 350 or so links. Anyone know what is going on with this?

I have seen no changes in the serps and I have actually had two of the highest traffic days the last two days. hhmmmm...

happened to me too, so it must be an update of some sort, hopefully this isn't a permanent change where they have raised the bar of showing the backlinks and become more like google.

I'm right there with you. I checked it early this morning and one of my sites went from 132 pages to 3, 400 plus links to 140ish. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Not a clue what it could be though.

Google De-count low quality links because my sites the same but the ranking doesn't effect at all

Its basically a "datacenter" that you are pulling your backlinks from via YSE.

There system isn't always in sync, so once the DB becomes in sync you'll see more stability when checking backlinks.

This often takes time. Relax, nothing has likely drastically changed. Sometimes if you depend on blog comments for backlinks that could be the reason for the major drop. Why? Because some blogs use "recently commented" sections on sidebars which shows up on every page until there are new comments. If the bots happened to land on those pages when you had a comment that could be the reason for the spike/drop as well.

Yeah, same happened to my website today. There might be update in YSE crawl data. Or maybe they are slowly shutting down it. YSE isn't giving good results anymore. I think this might have to do with the fact that it will be shutted down soon.

dont rely on yse... In fact, dont worry about watching your links. Just build, then insert into lindex or linklicious. If you wanna guarantee them being indexed; throw 50-100k blog comments at your links.

I would avoid YSE for checking backlinks.

    You should try majesticseo :)

    Code:

Ya i actually thow them in a 250,000 aa list. But it was in just one day I randomly noticed it and it kinda scared me wondering if all my backlinks were deindexed or something. I never get how some sites have 100 k links showing in majestic and in yahoo they have like 100. wtf right?

There is no direct correlation between Yahoo and Google so links not showing up in Yahoo any longer has nothing to do with Google dropping "low quality links"

As already mentioned YSE is going the way of the dodo bird. They have officially discontinued it and sometime in the probably not to far future you will not be able to use it at all. I would expect that between now and then the results are going to continue to become more and more unreliable.

Sadly that time is rapidly approaching, in fact SiteExplorer officially closes its doors Monday 21st November, in a nutshell that means 2 days from now a whole heap of SEO tools will cease to function for backlink research.

Don't use YSE now. I use SEOMoz. You can try Majestic though.
