i got a site that is about 2 years old now that is after some very long tail keywords.

ive had other sites rank very well using similar methods but this particular site has NEVER ranked well in google since the beginning.

its an EMD for a keyword and even then it appears off page 1. same goes for the long tails its after.

the only way people find the website on google is by searching the domain name. it is still indeed indexed with 300+ pages if you do a site: search.

in order of top referrers according to google analytics:

    direct
    yahoo (3x more than google)
    bing
    google
    facebook

something definitely isnt right. its got backlinks, good on-page seo, and checks out fine in webmaster tools. nothing is blocking google as far as i can see.

the only reason i can think of is if this domain had a previous owner and got it blacklisted but wayback machine only shows me in their archives?

    any thoughts?

It is possible that there was a previous owner that did something to it.... besides that I would just have to assume that you don't have enough backlinks? Also it's possible that you have some onpage problem that you're not necessarily aware of. If the competition is tough in the niche, you never know.

No, using domain name is not the only way of finding a website... Usually, a user enters keyword as search query (which we call keyword)

In my opinion, you need to optimize your website for good keywords with high number of searches.

As you are saying, everything is fine on your website... So, try with keyword optimization.
    Hope this work for you!

Personally I find it easy to rank for Bing and Yahoo. However traffic for a top position in Yahoo and Bing is far less than a >5 ranking in Google.

Google's competition for certain keywords can be more daunting than Bing and Yahoo. I have been in the pimp spot for both of the other SEs for a very competitive keyword but couldn't be found on Google.
