Thanks to ernesthemingway's autoblogs on cracks thread I tested out the reddit traffic thing and look at the traffic spike on my autoblog:

I just fund a funny picture through stumbleupon and posted it to my blog and then submitted the link to reddit's picture section and look at the traffic spike :)

It got voted down on reddit and people complained it's old and already seen but still...

Only problem is I didn't earn nothing. I have adsense ads in my blog and it got over 2k impressions but not a single click.

What better ways there is to monetize reddit traffic than adsense?

yeah it does work but try to use a few different accounts on reddit so you dont get identified as blog spam and get banned from the category as for monetize just cookie stuff amazon mate you will be chuffed to bits with your $15-20 a day from that amount of traffic :)

Thanks for the pic, it really shows a sudden explosion of the traffic to your auto blog. Are there any other website with the same result?

Regular reddit user here. It's very hard to make any money from reddit users, they are all aware of adcents and such. Most of the people there is IT crowd, mosts IQ is considerably above the average.

ya, stumbleupon and reddit can get you allot of crap traffic,I got 5000 views in 3 days and only made 2$ and I think the 2$ came from Google(organic.) I'm doing allot of testing trying to convert reddit/stumbleupon traffic hopefully ill find something that sticks soon.

Reddit traffic is mostly useless. They almost all have adblockers installed.

Social media traffic is awesome IF you're running CPM ads. If you have an established site and not some spammy blog ripping off pictures, they can make you some decent cash.

Even if you have a small blog, try Adbrite. They have an interstitial full page ad that does well if you're getting a lot of impressions. It will be annoying as hell for viewers though.

I'm thinking of just throwing a bunch of popovers and PPV ads, that should do the trick.

I see, so reddit don't convert with adsense, or maybe the ads don't related with the post ?, is there people advertising funny picture with adwords ? ...

yea I never got reddit to work, problem is i didn't have real proxies running i think and i never saw my post on the front page of my category in the new section...

oh well I'll look into it later, I'm getting good targeted traffic right now...just need more!!!

Social media traffic... my experience:

One of my blogs got lucky as hell and was hit with a tidal wave of traffic from stumbleupon. I didn't stumble the page that got hit, it was some random person (who I thank very much!).

I didn't even know I had a traffic spike, but I noticed a lot more comments on a certain page, so I check analytics... I was getting 50k views a day.

I scrambled to monetize this traffic. I don't recall if I had any ads running on this blog, but I tossed up ads from two different companies (bidvertiser, scribefire (now no longer serving ads)) I served up 250k impressions in a week and made 50 bucks from clicks ($25 on each advertiser).

I also joined azoogle, and was accepted, as my stuff was %100 legit. Too bad they didn't make me any dough on that site.

Sadly, a decent CPM program could have easily netted me a few hundred bucks. The big advertisers won't accept my site due to 'questionable content'.

So... basically what I'm saying is that cpm ads at $1 cpm would have been waaayyy better.

yea for some reason in reddit still.. i see my post and then it seems to be removed... any idea on this anyone?

you'll get the boost in traffic, moneywise not so much. if they see you submitting your own stuff a lot, they will notice it. they're not dumb.

I wouldn't say stumbleupon is better than reddit, just that I got lucky... really lucky. Also, different social networks like different kinds of content. Know your audience, for example:

Stumbleupon+funny pics=win

Digg+technology news= win

and so on.

ernesthemingway hmmm... Is that Shawn's brother from DP?
