this is a bit of a backwards question, but whats the best way to protect a forum from getting spammed using xrumer.

a friend of mine has a forum that gets quite a bit of it, he is running phpbb

    1. Approve new members manually - you can easily spot the fake nicks, they are normally a few randoms letters and numbers. Hold new member's posts for moderation for a certain amount of time.

    2. Custom capthca and a good ones too, something like "truck is driving from town A to town B, which are 200 miles apart. How old is the truck driver"?

    3. Tell your friend to visit the phpbb site / forum / whatever, I am pretty sure that there are security measures to prevent spam effectively.

Thumbs up! These are good ones!

Do not use the standard captchas as there are enough captcha breaks already

Easy on the sign up page create a new field which is mandatory for registration, but make it something random which most peoples Xrumer's will not recognise (Unless they then train Xrumer to by Modifying there XAS_AI file), So for example create a number field on the registration page like 4+4= and this must be entered and be correctly answered by the person registering. This should not replace the captcha, this is different to the captcha and therefore you should always have a captcha.

    u can protect ur forum.,
    1. use flash/image captchas like which is cat/dog from listed pics.
    2. use custom questions like c0rup7 said.,
    3. change the field names,
