xp vs vista

personally i would choose XP, i have been using it for such a long time now i know my way around it without any problems, all the software i have i know works with XP

ive tried vista on two different laptops - given it 5 to 6 weeks each time and ended up wanting to throw the damn things out the window, i feel that i have to really navigate around to find things which where much more easily accessible before, i find that i have to click twice as many buttons to do anything, and i have problems installing some of my apps...

however if you are going with vista just make sure you have a really good spec ie lots of ram and a good graphics card

graphically though i would give it a thumbs up but thats not enough to prise me away from my XP pc

hope that helps...

Definitely Mojave errr... Vista umm... I mean Windows. Vista is a poisoned crippleware OS. Get XP SP1. All my boxes use that, and I have no problems and they are lightning fast... :)

I'd say XP as well .. I've used Vista, XP with all SP (1 to 3 ), Linux ( Ubuntu, Fedora Core, OpenSuse, Slackware), Mac OS ( Tiger and Leopard ) and have stuck with XP ... the easier the better. Plus - it's supported by most software.

Using Vista is definately a learning experience. I've been using it since the whistler Alpha/Beta Days, and Have to say, I like it better than XP. Lots will argue differently. It performs Better, It looks Better, it Works better.

It's not so Hot with Big Business's that have Proprietary Software written for them for there winxp/server boxes. But for the Average every day user, it's fine, I've had ONE piece of software that would not work properly since I've been using it, everything I've thrown on it works like a charm. The only ral problem one would have is if they have NO experience with security. MS made Vista Rediculously Secure, in that you NEED to turn some of it off, lol. but once you do that its kosher. :)

Just my 2 Cents :)

I prefer XP. Vista is just crap from what I've seen. Hopefully, Windows 7 can replace XP.

XP....my hubby has Vista and he cusses at his laptop waaaayyyy more than I do...;)

I'M SO TIRED OF THESE POSTS!

People, there is nothing wrong with Vista. It doesn't crash, it will run everything XP will, it's safer, prettier, and has some really nice extra features.

However, it's not worth paying to upgrade too. That's the only thing thats wrong with it.

Also, if the computer your using vista on doesn't have decent specs, some of vista's features won't work.

But if you just look at the operating systems, Vista smashes XP easily if you can use all it's capabilities. People need to get real and stop saying vista sucks. Yeah, microsoft let a lot of people down because there really were no breakthrough features, and they ripped off mac a lot, but it's definately not a downgrade from XP.

Enough already. Lets talk about windows 7 instead.

I have a little computer company that does mostly break/fix computer work (i.e. virus removal, software upgrades, network setups). In my experience other than the gaming advantages of DirectX10 vista is the worst thing Microsoft has ever come out with, save "mistake edition" (ME). The hardware and software compatibility issues are at least enough to turn anyone away from vista. While buying all new hardware and software is always fun, for most it is just not feasible. Beyond the hardware and software issues the so called features that microsoft has put in place are more like annoyances put there to nag you like your former high school counselor. And last but not least I challenge you to drop a packet sniffer on your network and then tell me what you think about vista.

This is my first post & can't Thank BHW enough for getting me off my ass

Honestly owning a Vista reminds me of when I still had a Mac and everyone else had windows. Not very friendly.

64bit XP

However, I use 64bit Vista Ultimate and no problems compared to my 32bit prem software.

i really like vista's features, but it seems like in vista i get the "Program no longer responding" crap all the time its pretty bad.

Vista is really easy to navigate though, alot of awesome window scrolling options etc.

Thanks for all the opinions. I think i will continue to use xp for my new pc because its reliability and stability

My first experience with Vista put a bad taste in my mouth. It was the first Windows OS I'd seen a BSOD on in about 4-5 years... This was on a brand new laptop, too. Maybe it's improved since then, but I haven't seen/heard anything worth upgrading for. Stick with XP (or linux).

for now most of us can probably get by without having to use vista but at some point or another like it or not we will have to move forward with another OS... whether its to use better hardware or software but hopefully if we are lucky we can do it by side stepping vista to go with something better :)

im all for change but its has to be for the better...
