I am just starting an XML course (yea I know, teach yourself, blah blah blah)

Ok well anyway... what I want to know is what sort of thing (blackhatish) can I create using this 'language'; Anyway, In december I plan to try buildilng something. I'm just trying to figure out what

First day we learned a bit about rss feeds. I was wondering If I shouldnt try to create a sort of XML autoblogger type thing.

is the language powerful enough to create something like that on its own?

This will be my first step beyond CSS/Html in programming.

So what things XML can be used for to encourage me to do well in this class, because next semester I am going to try my best to learn PHP, since I think that is a more interesting language anyway

Well, sorry to burst you bubble, but XML in itself is not really a programming language, it is a "markup" language. The purpose of XML was to create a universal method of presenting data. You still need an actual program to interpret what is being presented by the XML.

That's just my take on it, I'm sure there is a much more technical explanation of XML.

Yeah, thats what the TA said. I mean its not a 'language'. But i was just wondering what I can use it for ....
(hence the quotes on language in the op)
