    Sorry guys,
I know, back to kindergarten for me a little bit.
    But i have a question.
A friend of mine just told me this:
on your wordpress general setting wordpress address dont use www.
    site address dont use www.
when building links dont use www.

I have almost 4000 links to one of my wordpress sites with the www version.
If i browse yahoo site explorer and enter my domain without the www it shows no links.
If i enter my domain WITH the www it has close to 4000 links.
    My question: Is it bad?
I mean shall i set the domain for "www" in google webmaster tools or shall i leave it like it is and only build links for the no www version?
    Does it make any difference?
My site is 2 months old and nowhere to be found on google, all possible SEO done with it, articles, social bookmarking, scrapebox, xrumer, god knows what else.
Any help is appreciated, and sorry for the child's post again!
    M.

Yea sure as hell its a nice question. it bothers me to see the backlink count is different for both versions.

Anyways, since I first noticed that, I started blasing only the www version.

If you got that many backlinks and you don´t show up on the serps, it could be either from the amount of backlinks in short amount of time(2 mnths) or you have something G doesn´t likes about your site..

Have you done the "site:" search? If you show up - Sandbox - If not - possible ban.

    Thanks BlackRat!
Yes it shows up for both the www and the non www version for the "site:" search.
I have ordered slow traffic for it as well to make it seem more "natural" so its not the case that i have 4000 backlinks and no traffic at all.
So you think i should set to www version in webmaster tools now?

If your site is not www and all your links are www then go ahead and change your site to match all your links. A very easy change to make in your WP admin. Make sure you update your site map after you make the change.

If your links were split between the two I would say to do a 301 and make sure your site map was correct as well but since all your links seem to be www just go ahead and make the change, takes about a minute.

I really do not think it matters.

If you're concerned, then just use your mod_rewrite ability within the .htaccess file to the link you've got 4000 backlinks for.

So, if you've got 4000 Links for www., then point no www. to the url with www.

But as mentioned, it really does not matter...

It does matter because essentially the www and non www versions could be two different sites (dns settings). In webmaster tools just set it up so both versions are set to www or vice versa. This is of course assuming i understood your question properly.

Actually Google can and does see the www and none www urls as separate pages. While they sometimes combine them a lot of times they do not, especially if you do not have an accurate site map or have your site setup in webmaster tools. You can tell them which one you prefer but without that they make a guess and quite a few times they are wrong.

There is a 20+ min vid in the webmaster vids that gives you more info on canonical url's than you will ever want to hear. A couple of searches will give you some good info as well.

It is easy to fix but you do have to fix it to be sure Google sees your site and links properly.

My short but valuable experience with Wp says that in general settings you are redirecting the domain http :// to http ://www. What I did for one of my websites that beautifully outranked all major SEO companies in Spanish language which is a hard thing to do specially if they are Seo companies is the following.
Backlinked the hell out of it and will continue to do so. If you are Sboxed change all you h1 h2 metatags for the most valuable ones but not the definitive ones. If you use g00gle webm*ster t00ls get both domains in them. you will see that diff results are updated everyday or at the most in 2-3 days depending on your traffic. Then "Patience" is the name of the game, give it 1 week or maybe more. nothing in the web gets immediate results. Also go to external keyword tool and type your site's www.yoursite. com and get the keywords to check if they are the ones that you want to rank for. Also as Volund says theres good vide0s about canonical Urls. check your w p theme to see if you got it right.
    best
