    It appears to be official, HostGator has been sold to EIG, up to this point, unless I missed it, I have received no official notice from HostGator. I decided to contact HostGator for confirmation and during a chat I got this:
    ------------------- --------------- ----------------- ------------------
    [Initial Question]:
    (7:28 am) [System] Customer has entered chat and is waiting for an agent.
    (7:33 am) [ChatSnipedManually]: {"staffId":"16769"}
    (7:34 am) [Nita E.] Welcome to HostGator LiveChat. I'd be glad to assist you today.
    (7:35 am) [Truncated]: Hello Nita, has HostGator been bought by EIG. We have been hearing rumors but have received no official notification from HostGator?
    (7:35 am) [AccountVerifyAttempt]: {"clientId":"437679","wasSuccessful":1,"emailUsed":"Truncated"}
    (7:35 am) [AccountVerifyDecline]: {}
    (7:36 am) [Nita E.] Truncated, I apologize for the inconvenience, however at this time I have no information on this available.
    (7:37 am) [Nita E.] Was there anything else I can assist you with today?
    (7:37 am) [Truncated]: So, you're saying that you have not been advised? Or, that Hostgator has advised all employees to remain silent on the issue?
    (7:38 am) [Nita E.] I do apologize however at this time I do not have any information for me to comment on.
    (7:39 am) [Truncated]: Thank you...
    (7:39 am) [ChatClosedByCustomer]: {}
    (7:39 am) [System] Chat closed by customer request.
    ------------------- --------------- ----------------- ------------------

    The sale info has been posted on WebHostingTalk via this link: http://greatresponder.com/2012/06/26/endurance-international-group-to-acquire-hostgator-web-hosting/

    But again, as of the moment, apparently nothing official from Hostgator to its customers.

    EIG owns BlueHost and this is likely to mean changes in the Hostgator service and affiliate program.

    I thought Hostgator is the best but I realize I was wrong after buying hosting from them and receiving this email afterwards:

    Hello,

    Thank you for your order with HostGator.com!

    In order for us to continue with the account setup, please respond to this ticket with a scanned copy of a Photo ID such as as a passport, or drivers license. In addition to a photo ID, please include a scanned copy of the credit card that was used in your account purchase (assuming you purchased a hosting account with a credit card). For security purposes you can mask off all the digits of the card number except for the last 4 digits.

    We sincerely appreciate your cooperation here, and look forward to working with you.

    Thank you,
    HostGator.com Sales Team

    Don't know what to tell you about that except that it is apparent that HostGator felt the need to screen your credentials due to potential fraud.

    That happens to the best of us, when we least expect it.

    Did you ever get that situation resolved?

    EIG have acquired quite a few other hosts as well:
    Code:
    [URL]http://forums.eukhost.com/showthread.php?t=17120&p=101246[/URL]
    The first time that happened to me I was pretty annoyed, but in this context 'best' relates to quality of hosting; and this has nothing to do with doing ID checks on an applicant.

    They offer budget hosting that's fairly reliable.

    But it's not fraud to simply choose to work or hold accounts anonymously. Do we have the IDs and credit card scans of the staff at Hostgator?

    Host Gator is publicly traded. So it would have been announced somewhere. Check their stock ticker in Yahoo Financial.

    Edit, My bad. I'm thinking of Rack space.

    I got the same email.
    But send my scanned copy of citizenship which was not in english.

    In reply asked me if I could translate it in english.
    I translated the contents(details of citizenship) in english and emailed them.

    They verified my account.. no hassle at all.

    Not always but sometime it matters. There are companies when their admin changes they go down day by day. A live example like Freelancer.com.

    Good for you. Ipage didn't ask for any scans, and there are many other hosting companies not asking such BS. Hostgator is loosing customers with this stupid requirement. Maybe they are the best hosting company but I'm not willing to send them anything.

    This usually happens if you order hosting from them through an affiliate link - they want to make sure you are a genuine customer, not the affiliate himself who's trying to inflate his sales by signing up on his own.

    That is bad news. From my personal experience, while working on my clients BlueHost CPanel, BlueHost is not something I would go with. If HostGator goes along their way, one of the best hosting company will stop being one of the best.

    I will stick to Arvixe and Seohost :)
