On one of my review sites I have a page that was doing really well for me. It's been ranked on page 1 for all of it's keywords for probably a month and a half or 2 months. I checked today and noticed ALL keywords for this page dropped over 260 spots. I then go and check page 1 and some asshole ripped all of my content for this review word for word, put it onto a webs.com blog, and now he is on page 1 for all my keywords.

I'm sure this has happened to some of you before. What did you do about it? Do you think Google will automatically correct itself once it realizes mine is the original and he copied it?

I'm pissed because that page was brining me some decent cash.

    Hmm..

It all depends on how you want to go about it.

    1) Mindset: Mano a Mano (You vs Him):
    • You can work to outrank him
    2) Mindset: Let's do this the proper way and hope for results:
    • Submit his site to google's spam form
    3) Mindset: He tried to screw me over, I'll screw him over:
    • Neg SEO him
    4) Mindset: Something's gotta work/ I want him out of the SERPS for good:
    • A combination of all
    5) Mindset: Maybe google will do its job:
    • Wait to see if google will penalize him for dupe content

How are you doing in the other search engines?

These are just a couple of things that come to mind. Either way, best of luck

    • Thanks Thanks x 4

Sorry about that.. looked like a good KW :) jk

I would hit some links at your site, try to outrank him. He'll probably not stay up there for long, I reacon he just copied the site and smashed it with as many links as he could. Should sort itself out though, cant see him holding that position if you do a bit of optimization.

I THINK (not sure though) you can file a DMCA complaint against it and have it taken down.

    6) File DMCA complaint as explained on webs.com

Edit: they've even made a form for you, easy peasy. http://members.webs.com/report.htm

Be ready to illustrate the date you penned the content and how you are the rightful owner.

It will take them some time - but the DMCA will likely work.

Pretty common practice to do to competitors - when they drop off in rankings. Dudes in snake oil - errrr ... Health Niches are epic at it .... you drop - they scrape and you get tooled rectally.

    Good luck.

Because a subdomain on webs has better authority than your domain.

Kimi's spot on web 2's have a headstart straight away with authority,G sees the content on 2 sites and will automatically credit the authority site.Do as others have explained and report the site. Most web 2's are quite fast to act with this sort of stuff.Good luck, you're rankings might come back once this settles, google would have assumed(wrongly in this case) you copied the content and gave you a penalty as such(Panda) once the other site has been deleted you should come back.

Fill a complaint at Webs support team. They will have to take it down.

No, he got penalized because of dupe content. Webs has been credited for the content hence the results.

Fill out the Spam form and do a manual submit to Google explaining the circumstances. A Spam form submit will require a manual review of the situation and will more than likely cause him an immediate penalty.

Start using the author tag in your content. Also login syndication your content(copying it word for word) to other places on the net but adding a link back to your pages. Send DCMA to webs.com and Google.

Can understand its really hectic and irritating to find someone outranking us using our own content.
Just report it to Google and continue what you do the best.
Just focus on quality content and good backlinking... he won't be there for long.

    Cheers
