I was messing around with potplayer, and it when I did ctrl+w it started showing my webcam feed. Even though I had disabled it in Device Manager.

You have to uninstall the webcam in addition to disabling it for the program to not be able to use it, and then for extra security you can put something over the camera.

You don't even need a black sticker, I have a white one that I got from a binder and it works well enough to keep it from capturing anything.

If you want to go the full out paranoia route, you can always physically remove the webcam. However the on-board microphone is way more of a security risk than the webcam is imo.

    LOL BEST COMMENT.

No seriously, why don't laptops and tablets come with a "hatch" / "latch" or pivoting cover? I don't understand. It's 2016 and it's obvious that it's a security risk.

There are some laptops that come with a physical switch for the Mic/Webcam, but they are pretty obscure models.

Same. No webcam, no microphone, no problem.

I do have a laptop, but I only really use it on business trips.

You should be ok as long as you don't get a huge message on the screen saying
" Can You Stop Doing That With Your Right Hand Under The Table Please, I'm Trying To Eat ! "

I mostly use a desktop. While I have both camera and microphone, I keep them unplugged unless they are in use. On the laptops I have, I have physically removed the camera and microphone. I did this several years ago when I discovered Google Chrome turning on both. Like the desktop, If I need a camera or microphone, I plug them in at that time.

With Windows 10, you should remove the camera and microphone, or add additional switches to hardware disconnect them as a precaution. Also have concern with Xbox, Play Station, and smart TV's.

I keep mine unplugged until I'm ready to use it. I really hate cords hanging around that I'm not using always.
