    I have a top keyword exact match url.

    We only service clients in the USA. For some reason we are ranking number 1 for this exact match keyword in the UK for this monster keyword.

    Why the hell is this happening? I am #500 in the USA and 1 in the UK, I dont get it.

    We have been struggling to get this site to rank and I think this might have something to do with it.

    What can I do to fix this? Is it something in the code of the site? Web Master tools setting or something??

    My server is located in Virginia so thats not it being that I heard overseas servers can do this sometimes

    My site is Wordpress so maybe theres some settings there that are shifting the relevance to the UK, I know we have a ton of plug ins. Not sure if that matters.

    I have similar problem with one of my site.
    Rank #1 for 2 competitive keywords on google UK
    #40-50 on Google US for 1 key and not found for the other one.
    Have been there for months, all the links created don't give any effects, yet.
    Domain is .com hosted on US server and gets links mostly from US hosted sites.
    Linkwheels, articles, profiles, comments... still no effects
    Damn!

    Well lets figure this out. Somethings wrong here. Im reading about this now,

    8. Geo-target using Webmaster Tools
    Using Google's Webmaster Tools, site owners can select settings that tell Google that certain content is meant for users in particular countries. This is fairly straightforward if you have set up multiple country-specific sites. It is a little trickier if you have chosen to use subdirectories or subdomains. In this case, you have to establish each subdirectory or subdomain as a separate "site" within Webmaster Tools. For more information on using the geographic targeting tool, see this video from Google analyst

    Some more thoughts,

    There are still quite a number of local search engine optimisation techniques that you can apply to your website to increase more targeted visitors. Including your local business address in your web pages and important keywords such as the town or city name into the title tags is a great method as search engines crawl through the contents of your pages, they will gradually recognize your website as being relevant to the particular location.

    On the other hand, submitting your website and business contact details which includes your phone number, address, working hours and brief description about your business to local directories or listing services such as, for instance, Google Places (Google Maps), Yahoo Local or any other popular online directories will allow more local users to reach your website more quickly and easily.

    if your domain name is .com .net or .org you can geo target it in gooooogle webmasters tools, try to set to usa and see the difference later.

    I've heard that in wordpress you may have this problem if you have your language to english UK and not english US.
    Not sure though as I am not a fan of wordpress

    I have a site with a similar problem 5th page in US and 1st page in UK. I have noticed in the code that the language tag was set to lang="EN-UK" changed it to lang="EN-US" a few days ago waiting to see if this as some impact on US rankings.

    Joslo,

    How do you find that language code? I have a self hosted blog so I dont have settings for language in the settings.

    I understand that you have to choose the correct language to download the correct version upon beginning installation.

    Well also could be that you're selling a product that nobody in the UK buys ie American Football or Baseball cards and so it's easy to rank over here. I find some keywords I can't get to top for uk but number 1 in google in days.

    If you have a wordpress blog you can edit the theme in your admin area edit the header and find at the top something similar to this:
    PHP:
    <?php language_attributes(); ?>
    and replace it with
    HTML:
    dir="ltr" lang="en-US">
