And no they arent doing anything blackhat or illegal or anything.

DHS is looking into a lot of sites lately. If the website is clean and legit, I wouldn't be worried about anyone taking a look from DHS.

Yeah perhaps your right. It gave them a right scare though.

It does beg the question though ....why are DHS looking into a lot of sites lately?

I don't know what the current figure is but as of 2007, DHS had over 209,000 employees. Most of them are just regular folks that surf the net like the rest of us, so the visit could be totally innocuous.

DHS is primarily looking into a lot of websites due to the copyright complaints that they are being flooded with by the big companies like Disney, Pixar, Microsoft etc.

They figure that since they aren't able to shut down the biggest torrent tracker ( piratebay ) .. then why not go after the websites that promote such content instead. Since late 2009, the US govt is getting a lot of heat from the pending lawsuits over the copyrighted stuff and so this is just a way for the DHS to keep the heat off of them.

And like I said before, If your websites are clean, you do not have anything to be worried about. If DHS does close it down, you could take legal action against them.

Hey what do you mean when you say you 'saw someone from DHS.gov visited'? You saw an IP address of a visitor and determined it to belonged to someone from dhs.gov? Or you saw a referrer from dhs.gov?

Well what i mean by that is that, i was looking at AWSTATS and there was an actual hostname ending in DHS.gov

So it was an actual visit from DHS.gov and i saw it in AWSTATS as well as Webalizer.

Nah, i am not worried since i was only reading logs.
My friend was almost flipped though, but calmed down once i explained his site is clean, nothing illegal etc. As a matter of fact the site isnt ready to sell stuff yet. There is a lot of traffic though to the blog.
