Hi there,

I just recently started work on oDesk writing articles in the same niche as my website. My website is PR4 and brings in about 3500 views per month right now. I just wrote a 995 word article and submitted to my odesk client based on his requested topic in the same niche as my website. I dont publish these articles that I write for others but I got paid 3.75$ and it took me 50 minutes to write the 995 word article & research. I'm working for 4.50$ an hour right now but I'm just wondering if I should continue writing articles for others on oDesk or should I just write these articles for myself and publish them on my own website? Which do you think?

You got paid $3.75 for 995 words? If your looking to write for people, and are fluent in English(which it looks like you are) I can treat you a little better than $3.75 per 1k words... Send me a PM if your interested.

Or you can publish them at constant-content.com. I wish i could that well. You'd be surprise how much people are paying for articles on this website.

As far as writing for someone else or yourself, it depends how bad you need the money up front. If you need some cash now, I suggest you balance writing for others and for yourself. If you are ok waiting a few months to see the benefits of your writing, you may just want to knock a few websites out for yourself.

I guess the main thing is that when I write a good article I feel i could SEO it and put it on my website and have some good views. I'd love to have thousands of views a day on my website but I know that will take time and constant articles coming out everyday. Initially the article was going to be 400 words but I got into that writer zone and started going lol

It's pathetic. I mean, $3.75 for approx 1K words is way too low. If that's what you are getting from Odesk, then stop taking work from that website right away. Start sending mails to SEO companies in your area with your updated profile. Set up a standard rate such as $6 per 500 words ( Negotiable ). This applies if you are really good writer else you can always quote lesser but the point is by quoting high you are increasing your chances to get paid a standard rate. Write few flawless articles and send them to these companies along with your profile. This is a small one time investment which will pay you in the longer run. And please for heaven's sake if you have been writing articles for sometime now, then stop writing at the price you have written this article.
And in regards to your question whether to write articles for your website or for others. I think you need to write at least one article daily for your blog. Here's a thought which I came up few days back.
"We all have a choice to make, whether to build a bridge for accomplishing our dreams or letting others do the same through "Our Efforts".

Cheers :)

You brought up some good points. Especially the quote you gave. My starting rate for odesk was 4.50$ an hour but I only get one article at a time to write and i finish it much faster than 1 hour because we usually do 400-500 words. In this instance I went to almost 1k words because it was a good topic i enjoyed writing about and now my client expects around that number. Hes a silly person lol i understand the rate for that is way too low but my question has been answered. I need to see if I want to build my own bridge or help others build a bridge for their dreams!

Thanks :)

If you think that your website converts very well then go for your website. But before doing this, do a marketing blueprint that will make your website earn more visits and converts very well. Why not observe your clients activities on how does he makes money from his blog.

If you need quick cash, then keep working for others. You could also monetize your site. Try to learn IM. It will be a long term investment :)

1,000 words in 50 minutes?

Good god, most of the Odesk workers I find usually try to quote me an hour just to do 500 words. Plus, most of them start working, log out after 30 minutes and go MIA for two days. I wish I could find workers like you who actually... worked.

Instead of recruiting you into being one of my new slaves, I'm going to highly recommend you build your own website if you're well versed in SEO. If you're picking the right keywords and you're confident you can rank well, put them on a blog.

If you're hard up for cash, increase your rates and send out e-mails to top paying clients on Odesk (some do exist). Or you can register on Iwriter. Your first 30 articles will be kind of crap paying but after that if you have a 4.6 star rating, you can make up to $16 per article.

I don't use Iwriter or write anymore because people have some of the most ridiculous requirements for articles. Some times people end up writing special instructions that are nearly the length of the articles they request.

If you're that good though, you definitely need to increase your rates. Now only if I could find writers like you though. I can personally write 500 words in 10-15 minutes if I don't research anything and just BS the article.

You are good enough in your job...you can work for others...definitely you will earn some bucks of penny...
