I have a article site and I have tags enabled so when google crawls it I show missing meta description, so do I really need tags?

    More info:
I have over 12,000 tags and I know if you enter a description into the tag box it shows up in the page source but I don't have time to edit 12,000 tags :D
You can see what I'm talking about here
    Code:
    http://your1stopspot.com/tag/recreation/
    and select view source.

    Thanks for your help

if you website is big i think you should not worry about not indexing tags...just let them go and google will make the job of not indexing what it doesnt want. you will not have penalty for not having meta description on them.

    regards

Tags usually harm a site from SEO point of view. Not because u don't have descriptions but because they are duplicate pages in most cases. Personally if I use tags I always make the tag pages "noindex".

I also know a case where a guy made all tag pages "noindex" and his traffic grew by 300%
