I am completely confused... I have many of my search pages indexed and many of them have good rankings. At the same time GW tools shows 6000+ Duplicate title tags mostly from search pages. Can G. penalize for that?

I found this article which obviously states it's bad.

    http://www.dnseo.net/google-wordpress-search-results-page/

But in many threads here people are just getting excited about indexing WP search pages - automatic content. BTW I am using SEO search terms tagging 2 plugin which should produce such a pages, but it gives the same title tag to many pages consisting of different post. Looks like double indexing of the same content? So my questions:

    - is it WP or SSTT2 producing search pages and duplicate title tags?
    - should I restrict indexing of these pages with robots.txt
    - how I can get rid of 6000+ duplicate title tags or should I just ignore it?

    Any advice will be appreciated

I have had 3 of my good blogs de-indexed after using the SEO Search Terms tagging plugin. Works great for traffic but G will eventually notice. There is another thread on here somewhere which explains how to hide the plugins footprint and basically use it 'under the radar' but I am not risking using it on any of my blogs now.

Yeah, I got rid of it too, I was also getting hundreds of pages indexed and loads of long-tail traffic, but it just looked like a penalty waiting to happen. So I redirected ALL those pages to my homepage and now only unique pages are indexed. However that also blasted my homepage into oblivion (i.e. the main keyword) - I guess it will return eventually but maybe that was a bad idea and I should've just noindexed the offending pages. Anyway, if it's a site you care about then I strongly advise getting rid. It's not worth the risk - it's EXACTLY the kind of thing Google is targetting.

You loose control over your search pages and you increase the risk for DC!
