It's not WP. What plugins do you have installed?

i've got 10 plugins running. i had one a few days ago that was supposed to
alphabetize media files upon upload. but it doesn't work with the new version.

maybe it messed up the system?

    4. Contact Form 7.

    5. Exec-PHP.

    9. WP-PageNavi.

    10. WP-RelativeDate.

So even after removing the troubling plugin, things are still not normal? How about media related plugins? Try to disable them one by one and see where the issue source is. If despite all this, things still not work as supposed to then some plugin must have modified the core files of WP and they should be replaced with new ones.

    tried that, same thing happened...

i just googled and those terms keep showing up on other people's blogs too!

i just checked and it has something to do with the files themselves. certain files get renamed for some reason.

if i convert them to gif format, then they don't get renamed. but they do increase in size!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

Did you find out what the cause was that required them to be converted to .PNG then back to .JPG?

my (uninformed) suspicion is the jpg files contain embedded code that *may* have caused them to be renamed. the myimager.com site used to support a function that allowed you to remove hidden comments/code from a jpg or a gif.

unfortunately that option was removed from the program, so i have no way at the moment to test my theory. below is one of the files that kept getting renamed when i upload them to a blog.

the file is in large .png format so i converted it to .jpg to save size. all those files got renamed, so i converted them back to .png and then converted them a 2nd time to .jpg
    and they worked ok.

the format was: .png >> .jpg >> .png >> .jpg

feel free to experiment to see why this happens!
