    So..

I am not even sure how to explain what I am seeking. I have a WP site that is targeted to an average size American town of about 60,000 people. The place has a thriving business community.

I would love to have a business directory plugin that runs built into the WP site or possibly in a sub folder.

If yelp is the pinnacle of business directories I would want to get as close to the functions that site has as possible. Anyone have any ideas?

I know I could create a post for each business in the city and set up plugins to copy look of yelp but that would be kinda difficult.. ideally would love to find something that comes with a database of all the local businesses in my target community.

There is a bunch of plugins that you could use in the wordpress plugin directory. "Paid Business Listings" looks promising.

I don't know of any sites running it. Maybe one of the other ones would be better if you want free listings?

If you don't like any of the plugins that are there you could use custom post types to have a nice interface for users to submit the listings. Google "Extending Custom Post Types in WordPress 3.0" to see a cool example in a real estate context, the domain is kovshenin. As you can see it looks pretty nifty and would be easy for non technical people to use. With user roles you can control what components can be seen in the admin panel after login so the whole process could be sewn up neatly. I haven't tried any business listing plugins so they could do that exact thing or similar.
