This is a fantastic day. My number 1 competitor for my top keyword (12,000 exact a month) deleted a majority of the text on one of his pages, that was pulling for the top keyword, and posted a link to my website instead. I just had a friendly conversation with him via e-mail and he said he was getting to many e-mails about the page and he was tired of answering them since it was really about his overall website. His whole site doesn't contain any advertisements or any way to make money, just some guy with a really old domain that had a page get popular on accident. He has a hit counter at the bottom that I have been watching for the last 2 months. According to the hit counter his page is getting around 20k hits per month! It has 251,000 total hits since April 03, 2010. I am so excited, this guy just deleted most of the content on his page and posted a link to my site instead, for FREE! I am currently at position 6 page 1 for the keyword that I am talking about, but I should be in the top 3 soon now! My adsense ads pay around $1.50 a click but don't seem to be converting well with the Kobal theme. I'm thinking about trying the image ads but I know they pay significantly less.

Also I thought I should add that the owner of this website that did this for me is a little hippie. His site is about free expression, open debate, and legalization... You can tell hes not interested in money, just the advancement of human intelligence it seems like lol.

Does anyone have any experience monetizing a food niche, what worked? My demographic is a younger audience without allot of money....

Pay him $50 a month or something like that and have him do a redirect so that the traffic goes to you immediately instead of waiting for visitors to click on your link...

If he deleted his website and replaced it with just a link to your site, it won't be at #1 for much longer.

If he's tired of running the site, offer to buy it from him for a low price (as long as he restores all content immediately) or offer to run it for him in exchange for a percentage of whatever revenue you make off of it once you've properly monetized it.

I was going to say purchase the domain and do the 301 yourself, but spdgxp has proposed something a lot better. I would move quick on this ive seen websites drop like stones from rankings.

Agreed. Buy that ASAP or it will all be gone very, very soon.

His website is very large and has tons of views to all of the other pages. He didn't delete the whole website, he just deleted around 90% of the text on the one page. He used to have about 700 words on the page, now there are only about 100 and some pictures. I really don't see him dropping from the rankings like a brick, the guy was getting 20k hits a month to this one page, and its over 12 years old... its got some authority...

If he doesn't replace that content his site will fall in the rankings.

I agree, I wonder if he would put it all back if I e-mailed him and told him too. Its kinda a tough call though, he may be really hard to beat with all of that content back on there.

I guess the question now is, how fast will he drop? weeks, days, months? I'm already seeing TONS of traffic from his gesture...

You said that he deleted about 90% of the page. If he also deleted the keyword phrase(s) that he was ranking for it won't take long for his site to tank. If that's the case, I would follow some of the advice above and see if you can purchase the domain from him and put the page back up the way it was before.

Or if he doesn't want to sell it, see if he'll rent it to you in exchange for you putting up your contact information instead of his. That way people will contact you with questions instead of him. You will be able to build a pretty large email database for marketing.

Looks like you've had a good opportunity fall into your lap. If you want to capitalize on it then you should take action now.

Just wanted to say thank you for all of the input and wanted to update the thread. He didn't want to put back the content he had on the page because he was getting complaints about it, kids were getting high off of his information. So I wrote him a good 500 word article to put on the page and he sent the link credit my way - anchor text and all :)

After the first 2 days of him doing this, my visitors went from around 70 a day to 300. My visitors stayed around 300 for the first 2 days. On day 3 my visitor count started to drop by about 50 a day until it held steady at around 90 a day. Its been stuck at around 90 a day for the last 5 days now. I'm hoping this is just a Google dance, it seems like that would make the most sense...

Now I'm in the process of getting visitors to sign a petition and make money off of their e-mails, just not sure the best way to do it. I'm leaning towards a facebook/twitter group and then following the group up with something bigger. IDK any ideas?
