Google KNOWS when you are trying to SEO for a certain keyword! you have to be careful how you check your ranks and monitor your site or else google will derank you.

So I have been ranking for keywords with a few of my websites all in one niche. And there is one keyword that i have been checking on a daily basis on my computer. So i type the keyword in, see that i'm ranked no.1 or no.2 and then sometimes click on the link. However, i change my IP on a daily basis because I have DSL, but it still keeps the first two blocks in my IP the same every time.

    for example:
    97.171.XX.XXX

It seems google has something in it's algo that recognizes when IPs on a network do a google search for a keyword often (in my case on a daily basis at the very least), and when that user click on a particular result (my site). Because my site is no longer ranking on any IPs unless they are one my DSL IPs. i.e.- 97.171.XX.XXX

I've gotten many new ones from my dsl and it still ranks but only on those IPS. But when i use a proxy or when i use my neighbors cable internet or my cell phone or hidemyass it is not ranked at all.

i've cleared my flash cookies, my cache, temp internet files everything, and it still ranks on my network of DSL ips but nowhere else.

I have been tracking my results for days and i've been in the top 3 for weeks now and i've checked from proxies all sorts of IPs and i've always ranked until today and now i only rank when i'm on a certain range of IPs.

Has anyone else experienced this? perhaps i'll be checking my ranks in the future with different ips on different networks as often as possible. I'm convinced google is showing me my site ranking only on my network because they know i'm trying to rank for this keyword.

NOTE: I HAVE CLEARED MY CACHE, TEMP FILES, NOT BEEN LOGGED INTO GMAIL THE ENTIRE TIME I'VE BEEN TRACKING MY RANKINGS. GOOGLE EFFECTED ANOTHER ONE MY KEYWORDS TOO THAT I'D BE TRACKING A SIMILAR WAY.

it's because of your cookies, not IP.

Yes i've cleared all my cache and everything. I've tried different computers. I even tried my ipad and iphone. and i got the same results (still ranking no.1) when connected to my wifi with my DSL. But as soon as i'm on a different range of IPs or on the cell phone's network i no longer rank.

And yes completely logged out of gmail as i'm aware that it effects the rankings.

And i have been doing all this to track my rankings too the past few weeks.

Google knows what you search for, it's normal. Google may or may not be able to figure out if you check a rank too much but what you describe seems like "local" adjustments for you and not a trick.

The thing is i've been tracking my rankings MOSTLY on my own IP, but i've also checked on my cell phone IP often times to verify which is a much much different IP, and the results were always very similar until today. Now the page only ranks on my range of IPs but on my cell phone, proxies it no longer ranks.

Why not just use a rank tracking tool? Like Rank Tracker or some online tool?

Surprise surprise! :D They keep tweaking their algos. They roll out Pandas like they're in CHina. It would be very dumb on their part not to keep an eye on you -whenever they can- in order to watch spammy attempts, website and campaigns of dubious value and so forth. Even if sometimes there are ppl claiming that G products are sooooo safe to use for marketers.. lol

I use market samurai as well as manually checking for this particular keyword because it was my highest volume keyword.

This is near conclusive evidence based on everything that I saw that google has something that noticed my activity. otherwise i don't think it would have effected the two keywords that i've manually been checking.

This is enough for me to be cautious in the future as to how i track my rankings. However it could be google servers that are updating, perhaps it has just yet to unrank from the servers that my IPs connect to on googles end. Thus still ranking for my network.

I'll keep an eye on it and report back.

Funny thing is i used scroogle and i'm still ranking, but Market samurai and manual checking on different IPs (proxies, hide my ass, and neighbors wifi) shows it as not even in the top 5 pages.

Does anyone know of an online rank checker that checks from random IPs or doesn't reveal to google your ip? or allows you to load proxies?

I find it mostly happens when you are logged in. Verified this from various IPs including mobile devices and only irregularity I found was higher rank when logged into google account.

This is so normal. You should always use something like Scroogle to check your ranking. I won't speculate whether it's a cookie or IP but if I look at a website often, it's going to rank high for me. This is just another reason I use 3 browsers, 2 internet connections, proxies, scroogle, etc. This isn't necessarily Google "watching" you.....it's just trying to show you what it thinks you prefer. Chances are you never ranked for the word to begin with.

No i ranked for the keyword before, i verified on all sorts of devices and IPs and market samurai. And now it only shows in my range of IPs. It's blowing my mind. My only possible explanation is the idea that it's been deranked/doing the google dancee and hasn't updated to all of google's servers yet.
