This is just theoretical, as I am thinking about something big.

If you had a site that had significant traffic, but was based on local traffic. (Let's say 5,000 page views per day) With no specific niche, more of just a user interaction site, would you sell ad spaces to local businesses or get online advertisers?

Furthermore, if you had 8,000 page views per day but they were semi-local (all from within a 60 mile radius), would you sell locally or to online advertisers?

If your answer is online, what would you target if there is no real topic or niche? I considered adsense, but there is no niche, and no substantial content on any page that would allow adsense to classify the site and bring back niche relevant ads.

Well, you already have the advantages that you need to be able to make money from getting advertisers. And with what I can see, why don't considering getting advertisements from both? What you need to think about right now is whether or not you will get the right advertisers for the niche that you have.

A friend of mine actually had a website with 800 views a day, they were all local (same country but small one) and most were from the city he lived in, he went to a few coffee shops/pubs/bars (I can't think for the English word to really describe it) and offer advertising them on hi site, with address and phone, some even had sites. So in the end he managed to get 3 shops to buy advertising from him for $50 a month. So go for it.

definitely local. if you have thousands of visitors from a city, all pubs/bars/restaurants/travel agents/cinemas/etc would want to place an ad there. just think businesses that don't adress a certain niche...offer them one free advertising, track that and then go and tell them that X number of people have clicked their ad, X number of potential customers.
