I've been doing some bit's in Laravel at work lately and one of the main Laravel tutorials was about building a custom url shortener.

This got me to thinking, would people be interested in a secure link cloaker / url shortener?

    • It would be standalone (Good if you're not using WordPress or your running static pages)
    • It would create easy to read custom URL's for affiliate links
    • The link cloaking would be bullet-proof (Anyone else noticed WordPress link cloakers are sometimes dodgy)
    • A login screen where you can modify your aff links and create new cloaks
    • Ability to add Piwik (Or Google Analytics if you're daft) to track outbound referrals

I'm gonna build it for my sites anyway but wondered what the take-up would be if I threw it out there as open source or something

Oh, It would be cool to see what kind of options / features you might like from something like this (If you wanted it in the first place of course)

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

I'd be interested. Was going to do FB ads but saw how expensive a cloaker is never got it. Not really sure the difference between a cloaker and just redirecting a domain name to my affiliate link.
